What is the best all around polishing compound that can be used on 90% of all vehicles? something you can break out with any vehicle?

I'm partial to Megs Ultimate Compound

Wolfgang TSR. Finishes out so nice for me, everyone has their own opinions though! :)

Haven't found a modern compound that doesn't leave an lsp finish. I one step with compounds with results that look better than old school 3 step days.

Polishing=M-205 or its' cousin, Ultimate Polish.

Bill

I'm partial to Menzerna FG400 as well. A close second is PF2500, it's more of a polish than a compound.

Would something like HD SPEED fit the bill or does it not have enough cut? I have not used it yet. People seem to be using it for 1-step polishes though. Just curious...

1st) HD Adapt
This has a better working time and wipes off more easily than FG400. Also requires less product.

2nd) FG400

Speed would not have enough cut for heavily swirled finishes.

Depends on what your criteria for "best". Is it cut, finish, easy of removal, long work time, low dusting, body shop safe???

My first thought as well.

In my opinion long working time is the top attribute for a polishing compound.

What would be your top choices under that criteria? Probably helpful if you estimate the working time.

I've seen videos that considered 1 minute a fairly long working time but I have seen other videos with a 5 minute working time and it looked like the detailer could have gone on for 15 minutes if he wanted too.

In my opinion, I would prefer a faster "cut" over a longer working time. If I needed to work a compound for 5 minutes plus, to achieve the desired results - chances are - I wasn't paying attention during my test spot or simply didn't do one at all & would switch to a more aggressive compound. 5 minutes is a long time to be compounding a single section, my guess would be the paint was to far gone.

Megs 101 or Pinnacle Advanced Compound for me although I hear/read great things about Menzerna FG400 but no experience with it.

My vote goes for fg400 also. On my car not enough cut with a MF cut pad maybe better finish but I was doing a 2 step minimum so it didn't matter I was just concerned with cut. Here is a photo I took after the 1st step with fg400 and Meg MF cutting pad. It left some slight marring but the sf4000 cleaned that up easily with a low pro polishing pad.
