Tail of the Dragon & surrounding roads

So your sure you ran the Triangle Ron? Did you see signs for the town of Petros or Oliver Springs?

What were they driving to say "if you can keep up?"

If your up for another trip out to the Dragon Ron we'd love to show you around. We're all family guys that enjoy the road without driving it crazy. Our cars are as follows:

2015 Mustang GT & 2016 Mustang GT, both with Perf packs, 1986 Fiero GT with swapped 3.4L, 2013 Mustang with V6 and manual and my ride. We may have another 15 Mustang with Perf pack but don't know quite yet so as you can see plenty of room for you and a buddy to come along.

We stay at the Dragon Pitt Inn which is right at the intersection of 129 and 72, about 10 miles from the end of the Dragon, or beginning of it depending upon how you look at it. Its also about the same distance to 411 where "things" are at. Rates are $80.00 a night and Dennis runs a BBQ joint there as well, covered outside area to eat at, everything you need. We always have a fire going to BS about the days drive and life, great people there who always join us, really enjoy this part of it too.

Once again I would like to invite you guys out to our run but I'm not sure how many rooms are left but there's always somewhere to stay in the area or in Tellico Plains, which can take 2 hrs to get to or about 20 minutes, depending if you take the Dragon to the Skyway or 72 to 411 to 360 and on into town. We always have breakfast at the Town Square Restaraunt, family owned business that makes you feel right at home.

Who's in?

They were on bikes.....

Signs ??? I was too busy looking at road and trying to lean and see how far around the curves I could see to see if anything was coming my way and how bad the curve was.

You do find yourself looking around the corners and it makes you wish for no A-pillars, LOL 😄

The Dragon starts at Deals Gap which is about 250 feet from the North Carolina/Tennessee border. The Cherahola Skyway starts in Tellico Plains TN and ends in Robbinsville NC, hitting a mile high on the NC side with 9% grades! Moonshiners (route 28) starts at the side of Deals Gap and goes through SC and GA, over 100 miles away. Taking Moonshiners will have you passing Bridal Veil Falls, a huge waterfall you can actually drive behind, great photo opt. In the way to these falls the road gets VERY tight, with a section nothing but guard rail and a rock wall!!

and it's Dolly Parton's home town.. home of Dollywood and outlet malls. It's basically a boardwalk without the ocean.[/QUOTE

Love the Alamo and Bennetts BBQ, Mamas ain't to shabby for vittles either.

Beautiful car and awesome trip. Did I say your car is gorgeous? Lol

I've never rode the dragon, but if you have extra time on your next trip check out the snake. If I could sneak away, I may even get to drive it too. It's about an hour from me here in Greeneville.

Thank you !

And thanks for adding a new bucket list item for me :D

The Snake is 3 hrs from Maryville, which is where we stay. I need to talk to the group and see if they wanna invest a day doing this. I've been going every year for 13 years, so I'm down for it. It would literally be a days trip with 6 hrs to and from and then the driving and stopping but leaving early would did that.

Thanks for the link too, I saw that arch and I was hooked!!

Thanks. It was a blast, and my pleasure sharing the pics.

I have the wheels in motion about charming the Snake this fall. Its possible we'd run it Sat as the Dragon is insufferable that day!

My buddy thinks we should take the interstate to get there, run the Snake and take another way back to Maryville....I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER🐉
