What are you using for a one-step and a two-spet polish

I do not count the LSP as a step.
I consider a "step" as paint correction only.
Even with AIO that seal/wax the paint I would still apply a sealant after correction.

So one-step being a polish,
Two-step being mild compound then polish and three-step being harsh compound then mild compound then polish. Correct me if i'm wrong on the three-step. For any step I would top with sealant.

Your first 2 sentences says it all.

I don't think there's a standard definition but that's what I use.

OK...As long as you can keep it straight. :dblthumb2:

Your choice, even though I wouldn't.

Also:
If the AIO was a Cleaner/Wax,
would you still apply a Sealant
on top of it?

Bob

Well, that's the thing. Let's take HD Speed for example. It finishes with a wax but is it any good? Could I top it with a wax or sealant or should I not even bother.

I know the purpose of a AIO is that you don't have to top it but is it as effective as applying a wax/sealant after?

Can a AIO be considered as a one-step since it applies a wax?

Can I use a AIO instead of a one-step and charge less for people that don't have enough money to pay for even a one-step?

So many questions, so many confusions.

Final polish: Meguiar's M205, Menzerna SF4000, Ultimate Polish on a blue b&s, or tangerine LC hydrotech polishing pad.

Medium polish (one step): Meguiar's M86, Menzerna PF2500 on blue b&s, or tangerine LC Hydrotech polishing pads

Cutting: M100, FG400, or Ultimate Compound on a green b&s, or Cyan LC Hydrotech pads.

AIO: Meguiar's M66

I also use the Rupes system.

Final polish: Keramik Gloss with the Yellow foam pad.

One step: Keramik Gloss with Yellow microfiber pads. Will be trying the UHS system soon too.

Cutting: Zephir Gloss with either foam or microfiber blue coarse pads.

•I can see your use of the detailing term:
"one-step"...being applicable to an AIO.

-But when using just one abrasive product
prior to applying the Last Step Product...
-do you also use the same "one-step"
terminology?

-That could cause some confusion, IMO.

•Another thought:
-If you take all of the AIOs out of the
equation; and, add in the fact that I
(and maybe some others) consider
an LSP as a "step"...
-Is there, then, really such a thing
as a one-step process?

{Can carrying this analogy over to
when more than one...or two, etc...
abrasive product(s) will be used,
also result in no such thing as a
two/three/etc.-steps?}

Bob

Can God make a rock so big that he himself can't lift it? ;)

V38 is a polish and has some abrasives in it. Use it on a very soft pad to remove any haze left over from compounding.

Paint hardness will determine your 1 step. For example, you could use HD Speed on swirled out hard paint and may get 30% correction. On the flip side, you could use HD Speed on swirled out soft paint and get 85% correction. It's best to have a few different compounds and polishes for various paints to determine your most effective 1 step. There is no universal 1 step product, IMO.

I thought I'd 1 step a Toyota Tacoma with Essence and a Gloss Pad because in my past experience this paint is soft.. Things went ok on the hood, but once I got to the vertical panels which were in worse shape the Essence/Gloss Pad combo did nothing. So I switched up to a Lake Country HD Polishing pad and still found it hard to achieve proper results.

It took a good 3-4 tries to get from here:

Maybe I'm asking too much from Essence on this 1 but dang, I thought it would do better.. I'm going to continue tomorrow morning, but this time I'll be bringing some more ammo to the fight. HD Cutting Pads, M205, D151, Boss Correcting Cream, Fast Correcting Cream, we'll see what happens.
