Hi

My neighbourhood has been the scene of a few break-ins lately..
Fortunately, my family has been spared. But I'm worried for my car. I got wheels and stereo for a couple of grand.

I'm looking for a good alarm. Remote start would be nice for the winter, and a motion sensor will also be needed.
It should also be quite easy to install.

Would anyone share some experienses?
I'm looking at the Pyle alarm, but I'm not sure. I have never heard of Pyle..

Thanks

Defa got most of the "stuff" when it comes to alarms/sensors but dont know about that remote starter, remeber that you have to have the car in "free" when using that and that means that the handbrake needs to be on and thats not so smart in winter time.

Also make sure that its a "FG" approved alarm or else insurance want cover it if something gets nicked...

Ive not heard about pyle either, but on of the most sold UK alarms is clifford

Defa is a very good option. I could get the alarm and the warm-up, but it's about $1500.
Yeah, good thought on the handbrake.. Didn't think of that. Maybe the Warm-Up would be best.. Or maybe I should get a Webasto.

Gonna check out Clifford:)

Whenever I've bought alarms I usually got high end Viper's, Alpine used to make some nice ones if I recall. Clifford is great as well, really can't go wrong with any of them.

:iagree: Viper is a really good brand...

I had an Alpine that had multiple buttons. Helped raise windows, move amp racks from under the floor and all sorts of great options. Car was never stolen, parts were never missing, so I guess it was a good alarm.

Viper is the kind they use at Pimp My Ride right?

I'm looking at one right now. The Viper 5900SST. Is that a good one? Or is it old?

After installing car alarms for over three years, I've put in every alarm you could imagine and the only one I would recommend is is Viper, the newest viper alarm has a one mile range, meaning you can lock and unlock, and monitor it from a mile away. I have had the viper alarm in my car for the past three years and have not had one problem. I would recommend if you don't know what your doing don't attempt to put it in yourself. You may have to buy modules to make the remote start work depending on your vehicle.

I would consider one of those things that tracks your car as well, like lojac or one of the other brands that you can use the internet with.

To me this always seemed like a good option, Ive seen lots of alarms defeated by a seasoned pro.

My friends car was stolen from his driveway, it had an alarm, the ecu was take out, and it had a wheel boot with locking lug nuts. Thieves will get it if they want it bad, but if you get the tracker you might be able to find it fast before anything bad happens to it.

Is it hard to install? I have a little more than general knowledge about electricity and my uncle is a electrical engineer.
I guess I can install it with a manual and the electical scheme of my car.

I already have an alarm installed, so I guess I can follow the old one a little.

The problem is that no one in Norway installs this, so I have to drive to Denmark... They want $1500 for the alarm installed.

I always stay with Viper, nothing wrong with the others, but I even looked at some fancy Alpine and still went back to Viper.

Way back in high school, I had a system that was not only the loudest (teacher used to mark me down in attendance if I was late as he heard the music blasting lol) but had some nice $ invested, pry 5-6K with custom setup whereas everyone else just went to Circuit City or something. Everyone knew what I had, yet my vehicle was the only one to not be broken into throughout the years. Either they knew not to mess with it:D, or I got lucky. But the Viper alarm I had had some type of small backup battery added the shop did, along with hidden wires so if anybody tried breaking in they'd have been screwed, damn thing was piercing loud too.

Viper ,Clifford,Python and a couple of others are all the same .They are made by DEI I was an installer for over 20 years .I am a ceritified DEI installer. They are basically the best out there. I have had and installed them all .I have since retired from that Line of work for the last 7 yrs but I still do some installs Ocasionally. These are the protected lines that carry lifetime warranty and are only to be installed by a qualified shop.

Thanks.

Installing an alarm is pretty complicated even with a previous alarm in the car, finding the right wires without shorting out others is tricky, even I had to use car wire diagrams to find the right ones, and still had to test the wires to make sure it was the right one, and the diagrams can usually only be obtained with certain programs that an audio instalation store has to buy. I don't know how pricing works were your at, but it usually cost around 200 to 500 in the states. As for hooking it up to a manual, it can be done, wouldn't recommend it cause sooner or later your gonna forget the car is in gear and the car will start moving, I have a remote start on my 5 speed and I said it would never happen, but it did and I ran my car inopt my apartment building, so I no longer remote start mine. I would say let someone else do it.

Viper is a very good alarm, they normally can't be sold unless the audio store selling it installs it, its actaully made by DEI, which also makes Python, basically the same as viper, it just depends on were you buy it. They also make a brand called Hornet and Valet, which aren't as good as the other two, but still better than others. Cliffords are good, but require mmuch more wiring, most of it is useless. Alpine is a little tricky and they are expensive.

If you're worried about your car being broken into, I would suggest looking at laminating your windods. It'll be a lot harden for them to get in since when they smash your window, they still cannot get in.

If you're worried about your car being stolen, then get a Ravelco system. To date, not a single vehicle with this installed has been stolen. That's a fact.

Or just find the power wire for the fuel pump and splice into it and hook up a toggle switch. Put the switch in an unlikely spot and kill the power to the fuel pump at night.

The Polish and Lituanian people are tricky. They use spesial keys to get the windows down. Some of them just remove the lock.

I'm not worried about my car beeing stolen, I'm worried about it beeing broken into, og parts beeing taken of it.

Trust me, I know where you're coming from. I'm from Belgium and we too have to deal with this Eastern European FILTH!

They should all just go back to where they came from.

The other two I would suggest is Viper or Compustar. Installing 2 way alarms with security and remote start is easier to me then doing a full car detail.

Whats up with Eastern Europe? Even in the movie EuroTrip they were like "oh sh!t" when they got stuck in Eastern Europe lol, "this is a nickel, I start my own hotel" :D
