So, I got a call from a guy that wanted his Escalade detailed. I told him to bring it on! When he got to my place, it was getting dark, so i didnt get a good look at it. So, when i got a closer look, I noticed that there was a TON of overspray on it. Also, there were many swirls embedded as well. So, My first approach was to wash it and see what I had to work with. After washing it, I started with a medium clay to cut the overspray. Scratches were partially removed during this process as well. Then, I started with M105 and cleared the paint free of swirls. Next was to move on with M205 and that polished out any imperfections. Then the paint was sealed with Meguair's new Ultimate Fast Finish!! This truck couldn't have came out any better!!!!!

looks like you've been slammed lately, nice job...

what pads and polisher did you use?

That's a whole lot of SUV to clean....

Nice work.

I hope you charged him a fair price for all your hard work and supplies required to knock out a job like that...

I also hope you educated him on how NOT to wash this Escalade moving forward, in other words,

No automatic car washes - either the swirling brush style or the soft mop style.

No 100% Hand Car Washes - these people get paid minimum wage and use dirty, tatty and worn wash mitts.

No charity car washes - these kids are well meaning but are not qualified to safely wash a scratch-sensitive clearcoated car without scratching it.

THE ONLY OPTION for a huge black SUV like this is,

1: Take ownership of the washing process and invest in quality tools and then educate yourself so you know how to properly move a wash mitt over clearcoat paint.

2: Hire a professional detailer that has the skill and the knowledge to safely and correctly wash a clearcoated vehicle.

If the vehicle is not washed correctly it will simply return to the condition you started with and if that is the case you might as well have explained this to the owner in the first place and then simply used a one-step cleaner/wax like HD Speed and made yourself more money with less time, effort and resources.

The first step to a professional detail job is to NOT evaluate the vehicle but to evaluate the person. This is what I teach in my detailing classes. I teach you how to be profitable and make your customers happy. (that's two things).

For anyone reading this into the future.... click the link below, look at the picture and read the text... it explains everything and this is a slide from my power point presentation used in my classes...

Evaluate the customer first!

:)

You brought that blacked-out beast from slump to sinister!

Thanks everyone for the responses! Mike, yes, I try to educate everyone when I do details. But, do they ever listen??? LOL.

Beautiful! Love black cars... this is why. Hate working on SUVs... am short. Bravo to ya!

Looks nice.

Great job, I'm curious as well what pads and polisher?

I'm curious too. i think i would have stuck the owners hand in a baggie & educated Him. it would show Him the difference you made. also maybe teach Him to take better care of His vehicle. we all know how much work that took, but i doubt the customer does. also He'll be rubbing that baggie over His truck every chance He gets. that'll reel Him in more often.
as always great job Prin.

Thanks a lot! I am currently using Meguiars pads with a PC7424 polisher
