I've tried the GG 3" in the past with 3" x 1.25" pads and it was relatively worthless. Not nearly enough power to spin those pads. I picked up the GG 2" backing plate with a few Hydrotech 2" x 1/2" thin pads. I have a feeling the GG 3" might have enough power for this combo. Anyone?

Sounds good Mark. I imagine it will really wake up the machine as well as allow the user to get into smaller areas.

Man, going from a thick 3" pad to a 2" pad half the thickness out to do something for its performance!

i bought the BOSS 2" DA backing plate when it first came out but haven't gotten the chance to buy pads to use it just yet (hopefully soon). however, i've used the 3.5" GG FAST Cutting Pad (no foam interface) with the GG3 on some headlights and it worked very well. doesn't bog down as easily like with other pads since it has no foam interface to slow down rotation. i'm sure it will work well on paint too...

I own the GG6 and the heavy duty 3" plate. Works great, but the head and shroud still keeps me from getting into many tight places. I interested in hearing how well the GG3 with a 2" plate does in this regard. At the GG3's price point, I could easily justify adding it to my one machine arsenal!

Cool. Do you crank it up full speed?

yes, and it still rotated with a fair amount of pressure. since the pad is only the velcro backing and microfiber it's like almost nothing...
