Killrs' thread reminded me of my efforts to explain my detaling obsession to one of my girlfriends. Maybe this will help you explain detailing in terms your wife or girlfriend will understand. Here is how to help her understand the detailing process. First, I asked my gilrfriend if she would leave her house without putting on her makeup... full well knowing she would say, NO! So... I explained I didn't want to drive my car without it being detailed and looking its best.
Here is the analogy I used to help her understand.
Claying your car is like.... using a pore refining strip or a facial mask. It pulls all the impruities out of your clear coat.
Polishing is like.... a facial scrub or microdermabrasion peel for your paint.
Waxing is like..... moisturizer or foundation.
Tire dressing is like.... wearing lipstick.
Protected trim work is like.... wearing mascara.
Clean windows are like.... getting your eyebrows waxed, it is the little details that make a big difference.
I finished by telling her I would stop my detailing obsession, the day she walks out of her house without any makeup and stops going for facials. I can get away with that statement to a girlfriend over lunch. I do not recomeend you say that to your wife!
It sounds like some of your wives or girlfriends hassle you about the amount of time and money you spend detailing your car. Tread lightly if you bring up just how much time and money she spends on skin care, manicures, pedicures, highlights, perms and hair cuts. Be very careful; choose your words and moment wisely!
I hope this helps you be able to relate detailing to your spouse. If you don't choose your words and moment wisely, leave my name out of it! :D

All very good analogies. Yet, I think the best thing you said was, "Be very careful; choose your words and moment wisely!"

I learned very early in the marriage who is always right. I was reading the want ads for the local paper the other day, when I spied a for sale ad for a complete set of encyclopedias at a very reasonable price. I called the number and talked with the man for a few minutes and finally asked him why he was selling the set of encyclopedias? He answered, "I just got married and I do not need them now. My wife knows it all."

:cheers:Hey! Amazing aproach to the femenine mind, thanx for sharing this with us. It's really interesting to see the difference between a male and female mind specially in a topic like this (detailing), that's why your thoughts are so helpful to us machos.

if I spent all that time trying to explain it carefully, where would all the time go to detail ???

Thats awesome, explaining an obsession as simple as that to be understood by pretty much what all women know with personal care products, don't think i'da come up with that stuff, would've just whip out the wallet and show em why its filled with more car pics instead of family haha. I agree with killr, the time it takes explaining is less time for doing!

Tonya,
Very thoughtful and insightful thread. I would never have thought of your analogy, but it does explain the difference between men and women, in more than just detailing.
I enjoy reading your threads and input on this site. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. Have you picked up a PC, yet?

Im the MAN:applause:I like the way you think!!!!

My wife does not mind my detailing but then she wants to know why I do not have the same zeal to clean the bathrooms...

Very nice Tonya, but boys you need to reword before saying it to the wife!

My bride asked why my office doesn't look as nice as my car...

I said 'cause I don't drive my office.

That is an awesome post Tonya! I love it.

When I was telling my wife that Lauren sent me a bunch of Megs foam pads, she was like "What? There are women that detail cars? I thought that only a bunch of guys did that."

Gotta love it!

Yeah... I went back and edited my post. I put that part in red. I didn't want anyone to miss my warning. :D

No.... not yet, I really don't think I need one yet. My car doesn't have any imperfections that I can see. Plus, I am OCD enough without a PC. I am confident.... I would be using it all over the house too!

Meghan, I am keeping my fingers crossed that one of these guys doesn't say the wrong thing, at the wrong time.

That is an awesome post Tonya! I love it. Thanks, I try to help!

Yeah.. my girlfriends and husband think I am nuts. I am pretty sure my mechanic is worried about me too. He said really are you serious, when I had him pull my wheels off, so I could take them home to clean and glaze them. Im the MAN
Gotta love it!

Cool analogies. It'll take a little practice before talking to the little lady.:D

Well for me it is a preventative measure, living in Iowa is harsh on a car's finish. Especially when it is a daily driver.

yo babe whats the equal to shaving a kitty?..... i mean dudes, we like that too....
my girlfriend did....
sorry if this aint cool with yall...... i just cant help but wonder dudes... you dudes know.....

Just a little FYI, this is a car detailing forum and not a forum for perverts who couldn't get laid in a wh o r e house with a fist full of hundred dollars bills. So you need to knock this crap off or you will wear your welcome out real quick here at AG.
