Killrs' thread reminded me of my efforts to explain my detaling obsession to one of my girlfriends. Maybe this will help you explain detailing in terms your wife or girlfriend will understand. Here is how to help her understand the detailing process. First, I asked my gilrfriend if she would leave her house without putting on her makeup... full well knowing she would say, NO! So... I explained I didn't want to drive my car without it being detailed and looking its best.
Here is the analogy I used to help her understand.
Claying your car is like.... using a pore refining strip or a facial mask. It pulls all the impruities out of your clear coat.
Polishing is like.... a facial scrub or microdermabrasion peel for your paint.
Waxing is like..... moisturizer or foundation.
Tire dressing is like.... wearing lipstick.
Protected trim work is like.... wearing mascara.
Clean windows are like.... getting your eyebrows waxed, it is the little details that make a big difference.
I finished by telling her I would stop my detailing obsession, the day she walks out of her house without any makeup and stops going for facials. I can get away with that statement to a girlfriend over lunch. I do not recomeend you say that to your wife!
It sounds like some of your wives or girlfriends hassle you about the amount of time and money you spend detailing your car. Tread lightly if you bring up just how much time and money she spends on skin care, manicures, pedicures, highlights, perms and hair cuts. Be very careful; choose your words and moment wisely!
I hope this helps you be able to relate detailing to your spouse. If you don't choose your words and moment wisely, leave my name out of it!
