I only recently learned about the Autogeek forum, and just yesterday received a new birthday toy - a Porter Cable 7424 kit. What I've seen on the forum so far has been very educational - looking forward to learning more about how to use modern buffing and polishing tools. My first buffing wheel was powered by a 2 HP Emerson electric motor that weighed about 35 pounds and was suspended along two cables strung from wall to wall just below the ceiling of my garage. A 10 foot flexible enclosed drive shaft ended in a buffer head that needed both hands to control. I used it on my first car - a 1937 Plymouth 5-window coupe, as well as on the cars of my friends and neighbors - including my best friend's '36 Ford. Had to be really careful, because that old devil would burn through paint in a heartbeat if I got careless. Finally retired that old Emerson in 1986 - actually gave it to my older brother, who still uses it.

For the last 20 years, I've been doing things by hand. But two weeks ago I clay barred my '05 Corvette, and realized that at my age I needed to give in to some easier and more modern methods - I had a tough time getting out of bed the following morning. So I hunted around 'til I found this forum, and then hunted around in the forum 'til I found what sounded like a much easier way to get a good gloss on paint. And I'm going to continue to watch and hunt and ask questions from folks who may not have been doing it as long, but know lots more about new equipment and products. Looking forward to a good long relationship. Thanks in advance.

Welcome BVW, lot of nice people here that are willing to answer any questions you may have. What color is your vette?

Welcome to AGOL, enjoy your stay... Do you have any pics of that 37 Plymouth or the 36 Ford. We would love to see them....

That's like asking for pictures of children or grandchildren. The pic of Jerry's orange '36 was taken during summer of 1966 - we drove both the Ford and the Plymouth in a wedding then. The pic of the '37 Plymouth was taken a couple of months later, just before I sold it. (May not come through very good - it was originally taken with an old Kodak box camera and later scanned to a jpg file). It had a 201 cid six originally, but I dropped it and put in a Chev 327-340 with a Muncie 4-speed - that was some pretty quick machinery then. Jerry's Ford had an Olds engine with LaSalle shifter. The windshields on both cranked out. My Plymouth was a Standard coupe - one taillight and one vacuum windshield wiper. Vacuum wipers were a b***h - step on the gas, the vacuum drops, and the wipers stop. The Deluxe offered two of each. The Vette's my latest toy - things have come a long way.
Thanks for asking. Sorry for the small pics - I'm still learning how to attach them. Obviously, I'm missing something.

Welcome sir, and enjoy your stay!

Where are you from in IN?
Far Northwest - rural LaPorte County. About 60 miles from Chicago. Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to learning something from you folks.

Thanks for sharing with all of us...I enjoyed the pics.

Welcome fellow Hoosier!
I just got here myself and cannot believe how much I've learned. AG is awsome, and these guys (&Gals) are very helpful. I'll be buffing up a black C6, so we can compare notes.:buffing: CAUTION: you WILL want to buy everything AG carries
