What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Watched some youtube videos in search of the magic bullet AIO that cuts a little and leaves a lot!! Returned some color match paint that was sent in error, but that's a little more than detailing. Thought about how I could modify a Ryobi Lithium Ion dual action polisher I won yesterday but probably wasn't even shipped yet. The OCD is alive and well!

Was 3D HD Speed in the comparison in those vids

Nothing, yet...

Going to just do the jambs today and see if I can mess around with the driver's side leather. it looks a little too shiny for my liking.

Had an hour to kill at my daughters class this morning so I tried a brand new product on the slightly dusty ES. That product was the Adam's CS3 Graphene and my God is it easy to use, leaves the paint glossy and smooth and ZERO streaks! I used one towel on the glass and 2 for the car itself. I finished up with Adam's graphene tire dressing as a topper for my coated tires, looks awesome

Cleaned up the wife’s Pilot today. Did a rinseless wash with Wolfgang Uber and then put on an application of Blackfire carnauba spray wax.

It needs to be polished, and I found a couple of paint transfers from the kids beating doors into something or someone beating their doors into it, so a little Meg’s Ultimate Polish by hand took care of that until I can can properly polish it.

The finished product:

That's a cool garage set up

Thanks.
The good, full size stairs to get to loft storage.
The bad, stairs take up a bit of useful of space (both ground and in the loft). Plus, with 2 kids, I always feel like I have to get the cars as close to the outside walls as possible.
I debated changing them to pull down, but I have better things to spend time/money on. If we stay here, I'd like to insulate and add a heater.

I had everything out and ready to go at 6:30 this morning for a deep cleaning of the wheels and tires and a maintenance wash. Did a quick rinse on the first wheel and put a dab of Megs UAWC in an inconspicuous part of the wheel as a test. The car has just over 5,000 miles and the wheels are just not that dirty but I wanted to see if they were contaminated. I waited a few minutes and the only purple was on the rotor and that showed up instantly, so I pressure washed it off and checked and the clear coat on the wheel was fine so I did the whole wheel and then the rest. None had a lick of contamination, at least according to the lack of purple. I went ahead with P&S BB and triple scrubbed the tires and then used brushes, more BB, and a wheel bucket of Gold Class.

I am not impressed with the P&S BB but I bought a gallon so that’s what I’m using

I rinsed the car and foamed it and before I could put a mitt on it the wind whipped up so I did a quick but thorough rinse and got the car back in the garage

I dried everything and spent a half hour applying Megs HCW to the wheels using the Apex method (misted damp applicator with product) and buffed it off

They look very nice

I ran out of steam before I got to dressing the tires so I’ll hit them in the morning

I had my shoulder rebuilt in April and my wax on wax off mojo isn’t back to 100% yet

Have a great weekend everyone

Michael

Note to self, get the fender brush out next time and get after that crap back by the struts...

Embarrassed...

What did you not like about Brake Buster? It's more of a maintence product so in this particular case it should've been just fine Did you spray it on or use a foamer?

I just sprayed it on

Personally I have a problem with paying for a product and then reading that you need a $45 or $100 IK Foam Sprayer to make it work

I have a 2017 Tacoma that's just as clean as this car and neither have ever had any heavy duty tire protectant, just 303 after every wash for the Taco and sadly, nothing for the Lexus until recently and then 303

I did try CG VRP on the Taco last Sunday but haven't washed it since

When I got the BB I started at 5:1 with distilled water and I could barely raise any suds

I added more product to 3:1 and finally 1:1

They just don't clean, they barely suds (could be the hard water from pre-rinsing) and it takes 3 scrubbings to get to white foam

The wheels are all pretty clean anyway so there is no telling how effective it is on them

It's not very effective on wheel wells either

The Lexus hasn't been here long enough to pick up any red dirt yet but that crap will defeat ANY tire cleaner

I love P&S Express and honestly was very disappointed in the BB

If I am doing something wrong feel free to school me

I am in this to learn

Thanks

Michael

Michael

I decided the statement above isn’t fair or realistic

I don’t buy car soap and expect it to foam itself, I buy a foam cannon

If a foam sprayer makes all the difference with BB and you are good with that then rock on!!!

Also did tires/wheels today. I used tuf shine on the tires and Griot's wheel cleaner/heavy duty wheel cleaner on the wheels. Just picked up the heavy duty after trying the regular cleaner. Used mostly heavy duty on the face and the regular cleaner on the barrels. The heavy duty stuff foams up pretty well.

I also tried brake buster and wasn't super impressed. Just bought the 16 oz spray bottle, not a gallon.

It does work better with a foamer, no doubt about it. The smallest IK is about $32.00 and is worth it as you can use it for numerous tasks. The felt pad inside the tip has to be changed out from time to time, just wanted to let you know but it comes with 8 or 10 of them.

I know it's a tire/wheel cleaner but most if not all of us who use will concede its a maintenance product, better geared towards wheels than tires but when used in a foamer the foam breaks down and lifts the dirt on the tires to the surface to make scrubbing easier!

Another great thing about BB is that it has a chemical in it that doesn't rust the rotors as much either. Finally the price, bang for the buck its a WINNER.

In closing get yourself the entry model IK foamer, it will do the trick with the BB and other products. The IK Foam 9 is the next step up, larger size and has a storage area in the handle. The big boy is the IK 1.5 and I use that one as a "poor man's foam cannon" as it produces pretty thick foam. I live in an apartment and have for a while so these 3 products make my life much easier

I will certainly keep it in mind

Despite my earlier bitching I have actually wanted an IK for a while

Part of my deal is we sold our home in Alaska last fall and put all our stuff in storage because we don’t need 95% of it here in Hawaii

Sadly that means my detailing arsenal is basically starting from scratch here

I did send over a PC, some pads, a good starter kit of towels, and a few tools but I have to rebuild my stock of expendable products

That’s not necessarily a bad thing as I am trying some new stuff but if I make a mistake I pretty much have to eat it

All but a few OC items have to be ordered from the mainland so I have twiddled my thumbs a lot waiting on products to arrive so I can proceed with whatever I’m trying to accomplish

Sorry

Didn’t mean to write a novel

Thanks for the input!!!

Michael
