What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

22 year old headlight restoration. Came out super great! I used Meguiars plastic cleaner, 1000-4000 grit wet sand paper on a Flex Rotary PE14-2, some random compound and polish, orange pad and white pad on the Flex, then finished it with Meguiar's Headlight Coating.

Did you sand off the factory coating? How long do you get out of that Meg's coating? I have used Optimum Opti-Lens many times, multiple coats--and it only takes about 6 months before the lenses start to yellow, not even worth doing the coating (if you've sanded off the factory coating). I had to laugh in the SEMA vids from TRC where Dr. G said it was a 5 year coating; then Anthony was in someone else's booth who had an all-in-one kit like Cerakote and they said 1 year, which seems a lot more likely. I did buy a Cerakote kit a while back but I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

The truck got a treatment of Griots 3 in 1. It does give a great shine.

I did sand off all the factory coating. I have used that Meguiar's Headlight coating for 2 years now and all the jobs still look as good as it did when I finished (the ones that I know about still.)

My neighbor had run flats on his BMW as standard equipment. He hated them so much that he replaced them with regular ones.

That's the spray can stuff?

I cashed in my sealant + wax card to give a ceramic a try. I didn't think I would do it but a spray ceramic started the rabbit hole. It's also nice now with products like Kamikaze Cleanser and Wax Off to make it easy to play with a coating and remove if needed.

Used Kamikaze Cleanser to kill the previous Phoenix spray coating + Apex BC ceramic spray. It's been on about 2mos and that cleanser took it clean off. It's garaged and limited in inclement weather so far so pretty impressive for Kamikaze.

Polished up a few spots, wiped with Eraser and had at it. I used the cheapest and supposedly easiest ceramic Ethos Ez Pz. It really did make it very easy. Went around twice and still had a little left from a 30ml bottle. (Bought it on discount during Prime Days).

Happy with the end result. Will I become a convert? I don't think so as I like to play with products too much but I don't think I'll mind giving this a go for winter. Supposed to last 2-3 years but that won't necessary. I've got others already here to try but wanted to get the cheapest and easiest out of the way for my rookie run.

It’s been nearly 2 months, finally got a chance to wash it tonite. Had some Gyeon Iron handy so doused it with that first; no real ‘bleeding’ so guess that was kinda pointless…oh well

Kami Over Coat, Kami Tire Dressing, POLISHANGEL SuperSport to finish

You do know I blame you, right? Probably wouldn't know about Kamikaze no.5 if not for you. You're the least budget friendly person on here

On the other hand, I rarely spend any of my own money on detailing stuff anymore so the World of Detailing Expenditures must remain in equilibrium somehow!

Weather still holding out here in PA. Washed her new 2021 Toyota RAV4. The 12 Escape is gone. Did a Maintenace wash then on the truck. Mixed up a solution of TWHS Ceramic wash for the wheels. Finished up with TWHS wet wax and Mc Kess headlight protection spray. Taillights got it too. Any wash in the middle of November is a bonus!

MICHIGAN VICTORY WASH

Took the EN to the touch-free wash after the game, pre-washed w/Bilt-Hamber Touchless, dried there and drove home.

Once home I decided to try DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss in 50 degree weather. I had a 500 GSM towel to apply, 350 GSM to buff and has NO problems in cooler temps, S U P E R slick and VERY glossy

Next up were the tires and wheels, Auto-Fanatic tire dressing on the Michelin X-ices and Adam's Detail spray on the wheel faces and designated mf towel to finish off

To finish things off I did a quick vac and sprayed ALOT of 3D Wango Mango (always think of Uncle Ted's "Wango Tango" when using it)

Thanks for viewing, what a great day...BET!

Much earlier today took the g/f's Cruze to the touch-free wash but uses the IK Foam Pro 12 w/ 1 oz of DIY Detail Incredible Suds and 2 oz of Bilt-Hamber Touchless and it came out awesome

With my Mustang away for the winter, my Edge needed a good wash after sitting outside all summer.

Washed with Griots Brilliant Finish, wheels got HD wheel cleaner and finished with a layer of Griots 3-in-1. Interior got just a little love with some 303 on the dash and plastics.

Forgot to get an outside picture after it was all clean.

I just spoke with a customer whose vehicle I coated in late June. As always, I invited her back to learn how to do a proper wash but life got hectic for her and she wasn’t’ able to find the time to bring her vehicle back. I did show her how to do a rinseless wash and she has all of the materials to do a proper rinseless wash but she informed me that she has not washed the SUV since I coated it. It’s been almost five months and I explicitly said multiple times that the coating will not last if it’s not washed regularly. Unfortunately, the people who need a coating the most are the ones that will maintain it the least.
