What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Just a little maintenance wash on a coworker’s SUV. I first detailed it back in mid March and it hasn’t been washed since. I protected it with Carpro HydrO2 concentrate with Gyeon Cure as a drying aid. I completely expected every bit of protection to be gone but I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent level of water beading on the paint as well as the wheels. This is a daily driver that sits outside 24/7 so color me impressed. A dose of Auto Foam and a contact wash with Incredible Suds did finish it off but it was time for a good refresh. I topped it off with HydrO2 foam, it doesn’t bead as well as the concentrate, and used Cure as a drying aid. I’ll see it again in 3 months to refresh and hopefully the protection is still hanging around.

Took the g/f's Cruze to the touch-free wash this evening. I knew it was dusty and had a good amount of the sap on it, so I got a little more aggressive

I used 4 oz of Bilt-Hamber Touchless and 4 oz of Griot's Garage Ceramic wash and wax, balance things out a bit

It's too dark now but I'm sure it's better than it was

I noticed some bird bombs on the roof of the FJ, removed them with some NV Boost V2, then did the whole roof. Fingers crossed there won't be as many now, the neighbours just removed a nest from above their front door. They had to wait for the end of winter when the birds are elsewhere. Also cleaned the glass with Carpro Clarify Phobic. The rest of it can wait for a full foam/2B wash, the mud needs more than a QD or RW.

Buy Griot's Garage products, use them, love them...save the bottles! I mean you could buy expensive, empty IK 500ml bottles (they are great) but if you buy Griot's Garage products that come in spray bottles, not only do you get the benefits of what's INSIDE the bottle, you get a great, empty bottle/sprayer when done

The bottles can be had for $4.99 empty. Agreed they are great. Just wish you could adjust the mist like on Talco’s.

Here’s the deal with Griot’s products

There are a limited number of their products available locally at AutoZone and O’Reilly’s

I have bought a few, liked some, others were duds in my book

They do have some stuff I would like to order but here is the deal

Not only do I not get the “Spend $69 and get free shipping”, they only have one choice for shipping to Alaska

I put these random items in my cart just for kicks

I can get the liquids locally and I would love to get the polish and compound but those aren’t sold locally

f5d730f668372d872505f627bc34b644.jpg

And this would be my cost

8b4d9f0b7a82a3d1b13b3c187648a32f.jpg

Kind of a deal breaker

Compare that to the Armour order I placed 2 days ago

Pretty simple choice here

The ironic thing is it’s only been the last few years that Griot’s would even ship to Alaska

Crazy as it would probably ship out of WA.

I get the feeling ADS are taking a hit on shipping as they build their following. Before ADS went on sale in Australia, I was importing the wheel coating directly from them in the US for very reasonable shipping to Australia, like remarkably reasonable! At one point, AMMO products were the same, Larry actually commented that he was swallowing the cost of shipping from a brand building point of view.

I guess anyone traveling to Alaska should smuggle some empty Griot's bottles in their luggage and drop them in the mail to chilly when they get there.

Then I guess I better stock up if I end up liking the stuff in case they come to their senses

What gets me sometimes is businesses that use Priority Mail shipping boxes but don't realize that those are ONE FLAT RATE EVERYWHERE in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii

They will offer Priority Shipping to the lower 48 and then stick us with the nonsense above

I am not talking about shipping multiple gallons of stuff, obviously that is going to cost more, but when it will all fit in a flat rate box, that they get business discounts on, and they don't, then I choose not to do Business with them

I ordered a dozen of the gray chemical resistant Tolco sprayers last night

Griots does have good sprayers on their smaller bottles

The one product I bought with the larger adjustable sprayer was junky, it looked exactly like the larger ZEP sprayers and leaked and dripped the same

Almost impossible to find that sweet spot with a great mist

I will trade free room and board for smuggled sprayers...

Agreed bigger ones are junk. Hard to beat a Talco. I messed and bought a bunch of the orange chemical resistant ones but they seem fine so far..

Ok, by admitting to this I will likely have my man card revoked, and all detailing privileges suspended indefinitely but here goes

I had planned a rinseless wash yesterday afternoon to take care of the TX because it was still covered in rain from Tuesday

It has been sitting in the garage in 85% to 90% humidity and 50-55 degrees temp and the rain beads still haven’t gone anywhere

I was getting my stuff together and the boss comes out and tells me she has to go to the medical supply place so I put stuff away thinking I’ll get to it when we get back

On the way home our son, who is in the hospital, calls and asks if we can bring him dinner and visit

One thing leads to another and it’s Friday morning and the roof and hood still look like this

Now remember, this has been like this since Tuesday

I mixed fresh ONR V5 and pre-rinsed the car and mixed up 2 gallons of original N914 and got towels soaking

I did a super thorough wash and got out drying and buffing towels as well as my NV Boost (original version) and got to work drying

The humidity is still pretty bad and I had to mist the towels and the panels to avoid a really grabby towel situation

The Boost worked but it was so so, probably due to the humidity, but I didn’t want to switch products

I got it all knocked out and it’s looking better

I do know one thing, I have way too many products on the car and I have lost track of what is where

I need a reset wash and then stick with a single product long enough to get an accurate sense of how the car likes it

I’m thinking I’ll use my NV Snow+ and NV Snow after my Armour order shows up and try Amplify and then Hero Rinseless when I can and Armour Shampoo when it needs more cleaning

And now it’s more coffee and laundry time

Yeah, I use a lot of towels

Don’t judge me…

I wouldn't normally let a car sit with water on it for fear of water spots but this was fresh rain and not road splash

It almost turned into a science experiment on how long beads of water would last under those specific weather conditions

With high humidity I've seen rain beads last overnight inside the garage, but never for several days. Maybe you should put some plants in your garage, it sounds like you have rainforest conditions.

The concrete was still damp under the car from driving in wet on Tuesday

Now that the car is sorted out I am going to turn the thermostat up to 60 and get things dried out

My daughter was complaining just the other day about how her towels weren't drying even after extended runs in the dryer

The air has just been thick this last week, the humidity this morning was down to 75%, which is the lowest I have seen in a week

So I got the EN cleaned up for it's THIRD horn replacement this morning, so I decided to try 2 new products...ADS Shampoo+ and Tire+

The EN just needed a touchless wash, so I added 2 oz of ADS Shampoo+ in my Griot's Garage foam gun and got after it. I did the entire car, let dwell and rinsed off, the beads were INCREDIBLE, so it did it's job! The smell is a melon of some kind, really enjoyed it! I used the usual free flowing water and moved it out front to dry it off

Once I was done drying it off, wiping the tires & wheels dry and engine bay wipedown I decided to top up my tires using ADS Tire+ dressing. This product is a yellow, thicker product but still sprays through its sprayer and smells like bananas! It spreads VERY easily and left my tires with a satin sheen, working well with my older application of TW Mr. Cartoon Tire Coat, I was happy to see this

Btw the horn magically started working yesterday, Murphys law in full effect here, I hope they find a short or loose connection of some kind or maybe a new horn, again, for the TURD time...stay "tuned"!

Took the g/f's Cruze to the touch-free wash after I got back from trip to the dealership (they had to order 2 horns btw)

When I get home I'll be applying ADS Tire+ to her DWS06's

Just swap it out with a semi truck horn
