Griot's Garage G15/G21 Long-Throw Orbital Polisher *Ground-Up Redesign*

My payment had expired as it had been so long since I placed the order, but I called them and gave them new payment info... My G15 should be in the mail!

My G15 arrived today!

I unboxed it, and wiped it down well with alcohol to attempt to reduce the risk of any Covid. It will sit in my garage to “air out” until I need to use it on Tuesday when I have an E46 M3 detail for a buddy scheduled to show up.

Nice! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I ordered mine this weekend, can't wait to try it out in my car in a couple weeks and have a neighbors SUV queued up for some time in Oct. Looking forward to it speeding up my work.

Hey, can you please reply here with some kind of review, Im wondering how the new backing plate responds also to see if the complaints about the high heat with the g21 are present on the 15

The car arrives this afternoon.

I’ll have time to decon, wash and hopefully start a polish tomorrow...

I can hopefully give some initial impressions tomorrow.

Sorry about the news 2W.

Here are some initial impressions on the G15.

I only had time today for a test drive on a BMW trunk. The trunk was in average shape. I hit it with Menzerna 2500 and a yellow Rupes pad. Did about 2 section passes, on speed 5 and then finished out with 4 passes on speed 3. Turned out great, I’ll probably hit it with something finer tomorrow but it really doesn’t need it.

The polishing power was good (no issues, flat panel), I was impressed by the smoothness, and it was relatively quiet.

I’ll get to use it more tomorrow.

Look what showed up at my house today!

I wasn't actually expecting it since it showed up on the same day I got the shipping notification.

I know it was just a trunk but do you forsee any issues with excessive temp on the head? Or any issue with the backing plate?

I used the G15 for about 5 hours today and the head of the machine definitely got hot as I was motoring around speed 5 for a lot of it. It was enough to notice the heat but didn’t seem to affect anything.

Most of the M3 is flat but no pad stalls and ample power. Found myself wishing the trigger lock was somewhere else as it was difficult to find at times, but that should/will come with more practice (I hope). I’m still finding myself impressed at how smooth it runs with the Rupes 150mm Foam and Megs Microfiber pad.

Broke my new G15 out to do the front end of my wife's car...basically everthing from the A-pillar forward, so fenders, hood, and front fascia.

In short I'm really happy with it and it's a huge step up from my trusty old HF DA polisher I've been using for years. With only an hour-ish of use, here are my impressions.
- Ergonomics: Holy cow. Big step up from the HF. All the available hand positions and the trigger grip go a long way to making this polisher much easier to use. It is also much smoother while running.
- Weight: About the same, if not a touch lighter. However the great ergonomics make the weight easier to manage.
- Nose: Louder than I expected, but still quieter than the HF. The sound is a different frequency and with my ear-plugs in it's almost silent whereas my HF was always audible.
- Function: This polisher provides the same correcting ability at speed 4 as my HF did on 5. It made short work of the light swirls soft Toyota paint. I'm covering more ground faster with fewer passes. What used to take 5~6 now only takes 4.

This is a huge step up for me and I look forward to doing my whole car in a couple weeks to get a real feel for the difference.

Thought I had posted pictures, but I guess not... Correction was performed with the aforementioned pads and Menzerna 2500 and 3500.

Any more updates from those that got the new G15 or G21? Any comparison made to the older models or the Rupes in terms of smoothness and noise level?
