Simple.....
Try to stick with foam "polishing" pads when doing one-step details.
If the paint is soft - and you use a foam cutting pad - the pad itself can micro-mar the paint. If you have to buff out a car all over again to remove the micro-marring, it's no longer a one-step detail, it's a 2-step detail. Lots of wasted time.
When doing this for money, you should NOT be promising to your customers that you're going to remove 100% of all the defects. If they are choosing your one-step PACKAGE then what they get is what they get. Always be happy to remove more defects but that's package 2 and 3 - more time, more work more money.
You CAN use foam CUTTING pads but just be sure to do a TEST SPOT first to make sure the paint is not soft and being marred by the pad.

Good rule of thumb when using an AIO - stick with foam polishing pads by Mike Phillips

so why many people use MF finishing pads with one step products like D166 for example?
what AIO in your opinion is an all around best?
unfortunately in my european country these brands dont exist. here they sell scholls, menzerna, meguires, carpro, gyeon ,autofinesse and 3mI don't know.
The risk to finish with a FIBER pad using a one-step is you can leave behind micro-marring.
Maybe some people don't see it?
Maybe some people be working on light colored cars and don't see it.
Maybe the wax is coating over and masking the micro-marring?
Maybe some people don't know how to so a Test Spot?
Maybe some people don't know how to chemically strip their Test Spot to accurately see the true results?
Maybe some people working on HARD paint where it's not an issue?
Maybe some people are not looking for "perfect" results - just "good" results.
All kinds of reasons for people to use fiber pads over foam.
Me? I know what's taking place at the surface level and my standards for finish quality tends to be higher than most because I'm held to a higher standard. I write for both spectrum of the masses. The absolute fresh off the truck Newbie and the most seasoned professionals among us.
Of the one-steps I've tried, you cannot make a mistake with either BLACKFIRE One Step or 3D Speed.
