More cut with AiO or stronger polish?

I know you want to get this done NOW but if you want I can send you some samples of the liquids I have on hand, most of which have been mentioned here, and together with the pads you have and the orange pads you have on the way, you would have a pretty decent range of products to test

I don't have any of the Scholls products mentioned

I appreciate that - before you go to a bunch of trouble, I'm wondering if I wait it out until Thursday and getting those orange pads to try with the AiO first? My inability to be patient is because I know it is sitting without any LSP right now. It's ridiculous because it is garaged, I work from home and have another vehicle right there ready to go.

I have hope now after seeing what you and a few others have said about getting a better cut in the pad...just two weeks ago I was doubting my willingness to buy the G9 and here I am today buying more aggressive products. If nothing else, the washer and dryer will look shiny.

Get some medium pads and a medium polish i think you will really like it. Thats all i use on my daily driver most of the time, i don't chase perfection. I breakout sonax cutmax from time to time to see if i can quickly remove a deeper defect but i still will only do 3-4 slow passes. Chasing perfection will drive you crazy lol

The first sentence is probably the one piece of advice that i really remembered from Mike Philips. Many other tips. I can't remember the context exactly i think we were talking about 1 step paint enhancments not full paint correction which is on another level, i don't have the environment for it myself..driveway detailer. Medium polish and pad is relatively safe and effective.

It's too late now!

Appreciate all the advice on this thread and these forums. I can't even begin to count the number of missed work emails you all have caused.

Don’t let the orange pad intimidate you. I’m actually in the process of compounding and polishing a truck with bad trail rash and I’m using an LC hybrid orange pad as my polishing pad paired with HyperPolish.

To provide my two cents......I had a 2013 Genesis sedan with black paint. Loved that car. I always had great success removing 90% of the defects with a Porter Cable 7424XP with Lake Country white pads (I used a few orange pads on some stubborn areas) and Meg's Ultimate Polish or Blackfire One Step.

I would explore the cut capabilities of what you're using and step it up to an orange pad.

I'm late to the party, but Paul nailed it.

360 and Speed are very similar, and you can get some pretty good correction of mid-to minor defects with it.

The white and black pads you mentioned in your OP are pretty soft.

Thanks - yeah, that is the plan. I may have actually located some of the Griot Orange foam pads at stores nearby so may be able to grab some of those tonight. Hoping that works before I go crazy on new polishes.

Speaking of........... If that place sells Griot's pads, check and see if they have the BOSS Creams. Thank me later................ ;)

That's the cycle - I've heard everything from soft to mid to hard paint now! You're right though, you'd assume they would use a step up but all bets are off as they work out their brand launch kinks. Have enjoyed the car though - it packs a punch!

I haven't seen Scholls around the forums yet. I'll have to look into it. From my understanding, I don't believe anything I have would classify as heavier. Anything I can see on it is only if in the right sunlight or if I have the right combo of certain lighting in my garage. The orange pads have been added. Sounds like now I need to select something beyond the AiO.

Thanks for the info!

This is true - always takes time to launch a new brand and work through all the trouble shooting!

Scholls don't seem to be all that popular in the States for some reason but get some use in the UK and Australia. There are a couple youtube channels who seem to use the Scholls a lot.

Like others have mentioned, there are a lot of medium one step polishes to select from!

Sounds like you are on the right track and will get this sorted. Have a go with the some orange (or similar cutting ability) pads and maybe pick up a medium compound of some sort and go from there. I would even be tempted to try an orange pad with a finishing polishing as well and see if that gets you the cut you you need.

I was able to come up with a regular Griot's Orange Correcting Foam pad and a Boss Orange Correcting Foam pad. Hopefully will be able to give those a run with the AiO sooner rather than later. I'll share the results. Thanks everyone!

Just one pad each? I hope they are just for test spots.........

Precisely that. Once I find the right combo, I'll properly stock up. Thankfully, overall, the concern areas are trunk, top of car and hood. Pretty much everywhere a dealership wash came down on.

And if you get some correction with an orange pad but you want more...hit it again.

A lot of folks want immediate and final results i.e. "i want a pad and product that will remove all these scratches after i work this section 1 time (4-8+ section passes)".

When I work on my own car i sometimes see new products/pads that "kinda" work...removes some of the marring but not all. I'll hit it again and get some more correction and go from there. I like that because it shows just the right amount of paint removal to level down. Like Mike Phillips has said for a long time there's only so much of that precious OEM paint.

Sometimes our need for a one pass immediate fix results in more paint removal than may have been needed. Especially on fine scratches.

So I think we're getting somewhere! Orange Pad + AiO has removed a good amount of the micro scratch marks on the trunk. I have a feeling I could do even a bit better but hesitant to move beyond this based on 1) I'm happy with how it looks and 2) not wanting to remove too much or even risking it.

The top and hood are probably worse off so those will be the next tests but happy now with the AiO and Orange Pad. This should allow me to prep it until next spring after I finish with the polish/seal. I hear the highest peaks are already due for snow around here...depressing.

I also have PBH Black Hole some Wolfgang SiO2 wash and seal products and Collinite 845 to add to it all as well. Sure seems like taking a day off on Friday is looking more and more worthwhile. I appreciate you all walking the noob through this one - already feels gratifying to accomplish so little. Now to hide the CC bill.

Hopefully there's two images attached. Finished it out...next time I do it I think I'll use something a little stronger than the AiO but all in all, happy for now. Finished off with some PB BH and a spray SiO2 sealant. A few hours later I added the Collinite 845. No complaints and happy I took the dive into machine polishing. Thanks for the tips and advice!

Beautiful! Glad to hear you're happy with the finish.

Welcome to the wonderful world of machine polishing.

VERY NICE!!

If you really want faster cut out of an AIO, use a Griots MF Fast Finishing pad.
