*Your first car*

My first car was/is also a Cadillac. An ‘89 Coupe de Ville. I still have it! It’s my pride and joy and I don’t plan on ever getting rid of it although it rarely gets driven these days. I’ll try to get some decent photos this weekend…

What’s the story? How/why’d you get it?

I wound up getting a Cadillac because my parents wanted me to have a heavy car after the recent death of my grandmother from car accident related injuries. I wasn't really into luxury cars or anything I just had to get a heavy car. So my dad helped me shop around. We looked at Lincolns and several Cadillacs before I found the one I got at the local dealer.

I remember the day I got it clearly, fearing the car would cost too much but it didn't because it had 110k miles on it and needed new struts. I bought the car and got new struts at Pep Boys.

The rusty wheel covers are what really got me into detailing. I restored them with Eagle One Wire Wheel Cleaner and the rest is history

I really bonded with car, eventually getting a new arm rest and windshield. Other than that the car just needed a little TLC and it turned me into a detailing fanatic :D

Hey your parents were right, I’m fortunate to have been in a Cadillac Deville and I had to do it again I wouldn’t pick a different car to have been in.

I had the same exact experience with that Eagle 1 Chrome & Wire Cleaner. I used to swear by that stuff! I remember taking the wire hubcaps off of my 85’ Sedan Deville and going to work on them with that cleaner and and a toothbrush for a few days until you could eat off of them. Lol.

Yes! That's exactly what happened when I used it! I was so pleased with it. And this was in the days when I didn't know about premium detailing products

BTW, I'm so happy you are still with us! That accident was very serious!

Back in those days the peak of my abilities involved Meguiars Cleaner wax, a few cotton terry towels, and a hell of alot of elbow grease.

I thought bath towels were perfectly acceptable. I also didn't know what a swirl is.

My 1st 3 cars were white.. Which pretty much gave me the equivalent of a disability when it came to figuring out the difference between a swirl and a squirrel. Lol.

I preferred hand towels. Lol

Mine is white. There are some RIDS I simply can't remove safely. This car would never look as good if it were black

Horrible to see again, Ric. :(

But I'll bet those were the cleanest wheels the LAFD ever saw. ;)

The other side of the car was something to admire in that video. I couldn’t help but geek out when I saw it.lol.

Had a couple short-term rides previously, but this was my first "real" car when I went away to college in Michigan in 1969.
'64 Impala SS, 327-300HP, Muncie 4-spd and factory tach. It held its own in the Motown stoplight races with all but the serious muscle cars of the day. I've had a bunch of vehicles over the years, but this and one of my GM Square body short beds are the ones I would love to have back in the garage today along with my current El Camino.

MY first ride was a 1973 Ford LTD. Don’t have any pictures. It was brown in color. Washed it so mush the rear bumper finally fell off at a red light. The car ran better without the bumper and got better fuel mileage. Guess where the bumper was so heavy. They were actually made with metal back then.

BosKo, you’re bringing back some distant memory. My first car
was a 1967 Impala that I used for something the Marines called
“swooping.”

On Fridays at 4:30PM we would all meet at one place on base
for those who needed a ride within 500 miles of the base I would announce
where I was heading, pick up four riders, and drop them off at a gas station off Exit 7 of the New Jersey Turnpike. They made their way home from there.

On Sunday, we would meet at 6PM sharp with no time to waste, and picked up the same four guys and off to NC arriving before 6AM for roll call. The charge was seven buck each way.

Sorry, went off a little. Now, my second car was my dream car.at that time. A new
1970-1/2 Z28 Camaro which I bought after I got out of the Marines.

A 1975 Monte Carlo. Mine was dark green with swivel bucket seats and an 8 track player.
