Griot’s Garage used to make a product called ‘Pre-Wax Cleanser’ which was marketed for use as a final wipe down before applying wax or sealant. It is now discontinued, and I have been unable to find any NOS on any retailers shelves. I absolutely loved this product. It was clear and had no scents or dyes. It wiped off crystal clean with zero streaking and zero residue. I used this stuff liberally during paint correction to remove polish residue and inspect my work.

I then went to Menzerna Top Inspection - it was a bit more finicky and could leave streaks if you used too much or didn’t wipe fast enough. But it worked. Guess what, it has also been discontinued!

I’m currently using Wolfgang Perfect Finish. It does the job, but like the Menzerna, it can be finicky during wipe off. By comparison, the Griot’s product had a lubricity that almost felt like a quality detail spray.

I can make due with the Wolfgang as it appears to be the only game in town. I’m super bummed that both Griot’s and Menzerna products are discontinued and I’m looking for recommendations as to what others are using. I figured with the popularity of coatings and the need for squeaky clean paint prior to application, this type of product would be a part of practically every line.

Thank you!

I would make up a strong WW ratio from something like N914 or Feynlab Pure Rinseless, the later is VERY strong and when making it up stronger than advertised WILL clean that surface properly for coating application. The remaining Feynlab Pure Rinseless can then be used for maintaining that coated paint but follow the ratios as this stuff is strong. I've used it for both RW and WW with great results but like I said, follow the ratios strictly for RW and WW.

Griot's did make a comment that they're working on a panel wipe so there may be another one in the future.

I couldn't find M122 in Canada at the time so bought a gallon of CarPro Eraser. I have not used any others to compare, but like it compared to what I used before I bought it... which was nothing.

For those who prefer M122 can I ask why? Why do you prefer this to say CarPro Eraser?

It’s about $40 to $50 less a gallon. I’m using Blackfire panel prep and it works great. Got it on a 40% off sale and haven’t looked back.

I will either be buying Megs or Eraser after it’s gone. Just trying to decide if Erasers smell is worth the extra $50

Yeah fair call. Here is Aus there is about $3 difference for the big 4L container. The M122 seems to be harder to find as well.

I’ve used Eraser (probably just the smell) and NV Clarity and probably prefer Eraser.

I just coat our cars so a big bottle lasts me through 2 coatings for each car, which could be anywhere from 1-4 years depending on the coating I use.

Never tried eraser.

Like crack said...its alot cheaper, and it works good. Has a hint of a vinegar smell to it though which i dont care but not a deal breaker for me

The 3D Eraser also has a vinegar odor. It bad though. I use apple cider vinegar to rinse my hair from time to time.

Does anyone know the chemical difference of a panel wipe from glass cleaner? Some prep sprays are great glass cleaners, but not the other way around.

I only maintain my own vehicles and don't need gallons of prep, so Eraser and Gyeon Prep have worked really well for me. I've used the Blackfire product too a very long time ago and liked it as well. Not sure it's the same formula as they use now.

Most are all alcohol based with other proprietary ingredients. For Optimum they state mild solvents.

The most interesting one to me is Bilt Hamber Cleanser Fluid that is naptha based, which they claim is less harmful than alcohol-based formulations and more effective.

I feel like most panel wipes work well. If I polished as much as some of you maybe I'd have a different opinion. IGL Precoat is pretty potent also and that is d-limonene based.
