Deyon, quite a review of ADS!

I didn't pick up Amplify when I bought Hero because I've got SO MANY toppers, same with tire dressings

I'll probably buy Amplify but when I bought Hero there was only 4 bottles on his shelf

Hero has already sold out at the supplier I have been working with, they also wholesale to a secondary supplier and they still have some 16oz bottles remaining.

Considering you have so many toppers, I would be looking at Adapt instead of Amplify. While it says "waterless wash", it can easily be used across all interior and exterior surfaces.

This is what happens when you say “I want one of everything”!

With the exception of the coatings (no current need), iron remover (they’re basically all the same) and the tyre cleaner (it was sold out), this is one of everything Armour Detail Supply makes.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the roll out of this brand for quite some time! As always, it takes a long time for products to arrive in Australia, in fact I actually spotted an Instagram post of Australian-bound ADS products being prepared for shipment to Australia several months ago…………..it takes that long.

I have no idea who is making these products for ADS, clearly that doesn't matter if the product is right. From what I have seen and heard, products like Amplify, Pilot and Hero have been garnering plenty of fans, but what about the rest of the line? Well, that's what I'm about to find out.

That's like $400 worth of dealing products. I had a quick look at their stuff to pricy for me but then again so is everything these day's.

Because I'm funding someone's retirement plan with my frequent purchases, I get discount from that particular retailer. Seriously though, I've been working with them for a little while now, both in an informal product advisory role and writing some blog posts for them.

But yes, everything is expensive now. I remember when GSF went on sale, it was $39.95 for a 1-liter bottle (which converts to about $26.20 USD). Post Covid, GSF is now $53.95 for that same bottle, or $35.40 USD. Most of the ADS line is comparable to other boutique US brands like Ethos or DIY. For example, Ethos Foam Party is $35.95 for 473ml, DIY Incredible Suds is $34.95 and ADS Shampoo+ is $37.95. For comparison, Reset is $24.95 for 500ml and $39.95 for 1-liter, NV Snow for 500ml is $21.95 and 1-liter is $33.95.

Yeah I've seen your wright ups/blog posts over there at DS i personally don't see the point in all the money you spend on new detailing products better spent elsewhere, but it seems to give you a purpose in life to try the next new thing and all the forum's work you do.

If it wasn't for detailing and writing, I would have jumped off that bridge by now. A bleak point to make, but it's my reality.

Deyon, I tried sending you a PM but I think it's full

Hey Deyon, you gotta be you, that's all that matters. And it's not just the detailing and writing, you have your little one to look after as well.

That is what I would call a UTE. Although, is it a uni-body or body on frame?

There is some conjecture as to what constitutes a UTE these days. To me, the original concept of a UTE (short for Coupe Utility) was to take a passenger car platform, for comfort, then graft on a pickup truck rear end for load carrying. The concept of a Coupe Utility was created by Ford Australia in the 1930's, where Henry Ford called it a "Kangaroo chaser", then adopted by of car companies assembling vehicles in this country, including Holden. The key part of the design was the continuous body sides, in other words, not a separate tub/bed like a pickup. This also meant unibody construction, no separate chassis, which also contributed to car-like driving dynamics and comfort.

When Ford Australia adopted the Falcon for Australia, the UTE was also part of the program and unique to Australia. I love this period diagram showing how they common panels to create four different body styles. We originally didn't get the two-door coupe body style, but the UTE used its rear 3/4 panels.............a true Coupe Utility. Wagons, Vans and UTE all shared the same tailgate.

This sort of changed in 1999 when Ford launched the AU Falcon UTE. Instead of the full length rear 3/4 panel, Ford chose to use a separate tub/bed arrangement. This design allowed Ford to offer a cab-chassis option, allowing customers to choose whatever tray/bed they wanted. This made the vehicle more versatile,

Ford kept this arrangement until the last Falcon UTE was made in mid-2016. But...............was it a Coupe Utility? Well, it was still based on a passenger vehicle. But instead of a complete unibody, Ford created a hybrid arrangement that fused a separate rear chassis to the unibody from the C-pillar forward. This also made it superior for towing and heavy carrying. To me, this is still a UTE, mainly because it had far more comfort and engine grunt than what the Japanese Hilux/Triton/Ranger was offering.

You will notice Ford Australia dipped into the wider Ford gene pool in using F-150 rear taillights on AU through BF MK II Falcon Utes. FG through FGX used Explorer tail lights.

Holden on the other hand kept the unibody design, and where Ford stuck with a live axle and leaf springs, Holden were using IRS. So, in the true sense, Holden were still making UTE's, they also looked better and drove better. The Ford's were more capable and versatile as a work vehicle, and for quite some time, outsold the Holden equivalent.

These days, to me there is no such thing as a UTE still being sold in Australia. In that I mean no Coupe-Utility body style on a passenger car platform. That's despite a variety of brands calling their separate-chassis dual cab pickup trucks a UTE. You then have pushback from a certain group of Australians that refuse to accept the term "pickup truck" because it sounds too American. Apart from Ford, most car companies selling this style of vehicle are calling them UTE's.

To me, below are not UTE's, they are pickup's.......................

These are Utes..........................

After having my poor back crunched back into shape, I was free to indulge in some me-time. First port of call, end the 81-day XR6 drought.

Even after such a long time, the big Falcon still feels like home. Today's takeaway, steering. While its hydraulic power-steering requires more effort to muscle than the EPAS setup on modern Ranger's, the Falcon is actually less work to maneuver in tight spaces. At 2.6 turns lock to lock and a turning circle of 11.0 metres, this easily outclasses my daily driver Ranger and it's 3.5 turns lock to lock and 12.0 metre turning circle. The Wildtrak is even worse, an abysmal 12.6 metre turning circle.

Moving on, the Wildtrak was the test subject today. The goal was to continue sampling the Armour Detail Supply range, in particular their wheel cleaner.

ADS Wheel Cleaner is of the iron-remover type, and while it does have some stench to it, I would say its not as bad as some. I don't normally use this sort of wheel cleaner, only breaking one out as an occasional deep clean. I would say that this product does it's job very well, but I think I still prefer NV Purge. It will be interesting to try this on a set of neglected wheels to see what its fully capable of.

Today, I teamed the ADS Wheel Cleaner with Shine Supply Wise Guy to deal with the tyres and wheel arches. After that, the whole car got doused with Bilt Hamber Touch-less. After rinsing, I the foamed with ADS Shampoo+.

Last week, I used Shampoo+ as a wheel cleaner, so I was curious how it would perform on the rest of the car. Firstly, the consistency of Shampoo+ is ultra runny, making it super easy to pour. Foaming ability is exceptional, it delivers thick and consistent foam that is ultra clingy. Slickness is decent, cleaning ability impressive.

At the moment, I'm just trying to keep the Wildtrak protected until I have more time to properly re-coat it in Spring when I take leave. So with that in mind, I decided to try another of the ceramic soaps I bought to test recently. In particular, I wanted to see how 3D Si02 Ceramic Wash would function as a foam-rinse type application after a contact wash.

This soap is of the runny kind, much like KCx Nano-magic rather than the disappointing Carpro Hydr02 Foam, or the ultra foamy Ethos Ceramic Wash. However, it doesn't quite transform the paint like Hydr02 Foam does, at least how I used it without contact. I also didn't care for the dated fragrance, so overall not a winner for me.

After the wash, I then continued with cycling through the ADS line. Amplify was the drying aid, Adapt used on the door jambs and roller-tonneau, Tire+ on the tyres. For me, Pilot interior detailer stands out, I just love how it wipes on and flashes away, and the fragrance is addictive. This is easily my new favorite interior product.

It seems my love of the ADS line caught the attention of the company owners last week too. :D

That video I posted of the "Frankenstein" car is a full frame car, all G-bodies were full framed

Up for attention today, the XR6 and Ranger.

After washing the wheels with NV Snow (the non-event Halloween edition) and the tires scrubbed with Undressed, I mixed up a bucket of ADS Hero rinse-less wash. You are going to hear this a lot, but "this is my new favorite" rinse-less wash. It's not as slick as the Absolute/Bead Maker combo, but I feel Hero glides over the surface smoother and doesn't appear to leave as many (harmless) polymer spots if you haven't dried the panel quick enough. I then used Adapt as the drying aid, it having no issue flashing away on this cold winter morning.

Finishing the exterior, I used Amplify to top the ADS coating on the wheels, then used ADS Tire+ on the rubber. I'm finding this product behaves very much like OG Tire Dressing, it having a similar application feel and finished result, it also benefitting from a wipe over after 10 minutes. Tire+ seems to have similar longevity on wet roads too. So which one? While I love the banana scent of Tire+, I just can't get the scent of OG Tire Dressing out of my head (can anyone pickup the song title I referenced in bold there? :D).

After attending to the glass, the interior got wiped down with Pilot, "this is my new favorite" interior detailer.

After (sadly) returning the Blue Rocket to storage, I switched attention to the Ranger, it being covered in traffic film after a miserable wet week. In this case, I again used Undressed on the tires but used Carpro Reset to clean the wheels. After a soak with Bilt Hamber Touch-less, I washed with Reset...........still a favorite of mine.

Drying aid on the Ranger was again ADS Adapt, the wheels topped with Amplify and tires with OG Tire Dressing. Once again, ADS Pilot sorted the interior, but to switch things up, I used DIY Detail Waterless on the tray and door jambs.

With having a week to think about it, backed by using them repeatedly over the last two days, I'm convinced the Armour Detail Supply lineup is the real deal. That doesn't mean you should go and throw all your existing products in the bin and start again with ADS stuff. But it does throw another highly credible brand into the mix. So, if you have enjoyed products from the likes of Carpro, DIY Detail and NV, you are going to love the Armour Detail Supply lineup.

So which one? While I love the banana scent of Tire+, I just can't get the scent of OG Tire Dressing out of my head (can anyone pickup the song title I referenced in bold there? :D).

Ahh Kylie Minogue. That's a throwback!

Bingo!

Not a day goes by without me listening to her music. She has got me through some really tough times, I think we all have an entertainer that does the same thing.

For those bemused, this is the song....................

And my favorite versions.....................

And yes, I know its nothing to do with detailing, but its my thread! Oh, and she did promote Ford's at one point, the Street KA!

And in keeping with the Mustang theme here, her dad Ron owns a 1968 Shelby, which she sang about on her Golden album.

Damn she's

This is my "song", has been since the moment it was released back in 2001.......................

My favorite versions from 2014....................

And this song I highly recommend for when stuck in traffic. Or maybe not, its a bit up-petty.................
