My FIRST job paid $3.35 / hour.
When I started the job, I'm retiring from 30 years ago, the hourly wage was $9.08. Over time it DID improve by small increments, but I had to WORK for it. At the time I filed for retirement, it was +/- $35.00 / hour, which in reality was still not enough to be a police officer in the public housing areas in the inner city. But I did it anyway, because I have a DUTY to support my family. Love or hate the job, providing for my family was (and is) #1. I couldn't honestly call myself a real man if I was unwilling to do what was necessary for my family.
I threw papers for next to nothing. 7 days a week. Have worked since I was 12. Young people today are an embarrassment to this country
