I love how the satin plastidip stays clean for so long between washes. I have cut my at home detailing time way way down.

No disrespect to the martial arts but Tiger Rock sounds like an Eagle Fang spin off. What discipline is that?

What is eagle fang?

It’s the martial arts school I own/operate. It’s a franchise. It’s primarily taekwondo based.

That Territory/Freestyle comparison is spot on, what a difference it must have been between THAT and what we got. My ex-mother in law had a 2005 Freestyle and I actually liked driving it, thought the CVT was "cool" since it was SO different. Our Freestyle/TaurusX had a Volvo-based chassis and AWD system, only engine was the 3.0L DOHC V6, adequate power for how those things were used.

Ford Australia management made the trip to Dearborn to pitch the proposal for a unique SUV based on the Falcon platform. They built that scale model, had it all costed, basically they wanted approval to spend the money to develop the model into reality. I'm fairly sure that's Edsel Ford II second from left. He actually did a stint in Australia and was responsible for the Falcon Cobra....................................

Being such a cost driven company, I can only assume the costing to put a unique body style into production was heavily in favor of the Australian team compared to engineering and building an existing model in right-hand-drive, then importing it instead of doing it locally. The local Ford and Holden teams were renowned for this, managing to do stuff for a fraction of the cost compared to their US counterparts.........................that's why you guys got the 2000's Pontiac GTO based on our Monaro.

Anyway, they got approval, then the US guys liked it so much they did their own version.

Freestyle -

SX Territory -

Most Territory's were powered by the naturally aspirated 4.0 inline 6, at least until the 2.7 diesel V6 arrived. They did however put the 4.0 turbo engine from the XR6 Turbo in there for a short while, with 245 kW (329hp), or the 270 kW (362hp) FPV version.

From what I can gather, the Freestyle wasn't very popular, probably because most would have bought the bigger Explorer. The Territory on the other hand basically killed off the Explorer in Australia. The Territory went into production in mid-2004, was facelifted in 2009, then a heavy facelift for the 2011 SZ model. The last one was made when before they closed the factory in September 2016. In 2004, the Falcon was the volume model, however over the last few years before closure, the Territory was significantly outselling the Falcon, people just didn't want sedans anymore.

You would think with such a popular nameplate, Ford would have had a replacement for the Territory? Nope.

The Ranger was so popular, they decided to go with the Everest, not nearly the same thing though, being body on chassis rather than unibody.

It’s from karate kid show. Johnny leaves Kobrai Kai and starts that as his Dojo.

I took taekwondo for many years. Probably only reason I got some discipline.

Yeah, that's Ford's answer to everything these days in Australia......................................Ranger or Everest.

Customer - "I need a small SUV to drive to work in"

Ford - "Well, we have the Everest, its an SUV......................"

Customer - "The Everest is too big for my needs"

Ford - "But it has 7-seats, its perfect for taking everyone on vacation..............."

Customer - "But I don't need 7-seats, I live by myself and never go off road"

Ford - "No problem, how about this Ranger................."

Customer - "Again, its just too big for me"

Ford - "But it has plenty of room in the back to carry you stuff to the gym..............."

Customer - "Hmmm, well, I guess I'll have to shop around"

Ford - confused look on their face.

Simply change the basic customer requirement, the same thing plays out where Ford would be happy to sell you a Ranger or Everest because that's all they have. Meanwhile, the discontinued the Endura (Edge), Escape (yep, one of the biggest segments on the market and they can't be bothered), the Puma, Mondeo, Focus, Fiesta...........................................I have to wonder why they bother offering the Mustang when all they care about is overweight ladder frame vehicles.

No picture to display, yet, as it hasn't been properly cleaned and "detailed", but we've got a new member of our fleet this past Saturday

Stay "tuned"....

Certainly not a replacement for the Elantra N is it? You just spent a lot of time cleaning it up.

No...but if I don't taken care of properly on the current TSB for the knock sensor I might have to make a move, a move that takes me away from the perf market

If you go away from the performance market, I guess you would be going away from Hyundai as well? I can't see you in a pick up. Wait, I think I've got it, based on the what you posted a week or two back, you're looking for a good low mileage FJ Cruiser. 🤣

My nephew's Tuscon, just back from Christmas shopping, he got it washed while he was there, so he didn't have to fight for parking, he basically drops it off at the car wash and picks it up when he's leaving. From what I could see they basically removed all the dirt and dust, and that's it. It's the 2.0 turbo diesel, did you get that in the US?

And one of the FJ sitting nice and shiny.

We do have the Tuscon here, no diesel ofcoarse and the new Tuscons are pretty nice! Not sure which route I'd go, I'm just hoping they fix it "the right way" now that's there's a fix so the car can handle a carwash, even if it took a while to go bad, others have had the issue driving in a thunderstorm, so it's a problem no matter what

Btw Dave, those wheels just transform the FJ

Not mine, but this is an EV I wouldn't mind having in the driveway. My neighbour brought this 2024 Macan Turbo home Christmas Eve, because, why not.

My sister is looking to add a second car to the fleet, mainly a city run around. They are considering (although not completely sold) an electric, which I think in a major capital city, it would be a workable situation compared to a country area. The problem for her is most electric cars look wacky in a bid to make a social statement..................which rules out quite a few options, including Tesla's.

I'd say they will end up in another Volvo or maybe a Lexus, but I also suggested looking at the Mustang Mach E, which is basically sales proof in Australia due to Ford over pricing it. From what I'm led to believe, the Mach E is a good electric car that is saddled (see what I did there) with the baggage associated with the Mustang name. I still believe Ford should have picked a different name rather than tarnishing the (real) Mustang's heritage, or adding baggage to the electric Mach E. As it stands, I really like the look of the Mach E, so did my sister until she spotted the goofy tail lights.

If you looking for an EV that looks good, it's hard to go past Cupra, they're based on VW but with more aggressive styling.

Cupra Born

Cupra Tavascan, due next year.

But if she likes Volvo, there's always Polestar, but there bloody expensive.

She mentioned the Cupra, but they had bad experience with VW in the past, so I don't think they want to go back to the VAG stuff.
Fair enough, I'm not sure I trust any brand completely anymore. I watched a video today about one of the brand new Prado press cars bricking itself after going through some mud and water, apparently some moisture got into the 48V battery or generator, they were able to reset the first error and get it back home, then it died in a carpark, they had to use an actual key to unlock the doors.
