What did you do today non-detailing related?

Bought some Genuine Toyota oil and oil filter,
I'm paying $10 per item more than I did last time.

Oil 5 litre was $70 now $82
Oil filter was $10 now $20

I think going forward i will buy Penrite it's $64 made in Australia and they make some good oil 🛢 and coolant in my opinion.

Also helped Dad clean up the neighbours trees that fell down last October in storms, nothing fancy mostly rotten Wattle trees.

Put it this way we are doing him a favour! not him giving us the wood for free...

You just posted up so many in that last post I was wondering if you were just knocking them out. I haven't oil painted since Jr. High.

They’re not all done. The field painting will have one more sitting once dry and portraits I fiddle with ad nauseum.

I was wandering around Bunnings today, basically they're our Home Depot, picking up some bits and pieces, when I found this...PSX_20250319_150457.jpg So they've expanded into car detailing stuff. They've always had a little bit of automotive stuff, mainly some tools and towing stuff. According to one of the guys this all came in about 3 weeks ago, but they're going to expand it as they have more stock coming in. The usual brands though, Meguiar's and Armor All, and one I'd forgotten about, Polyglaze from Selley's, they used to be big back in the 90s. It was like walking into a car accessory shop just after I got my licence back in 88. I'm not a fan of the MFs being stored on the shelf rolled up, but not sealed in plastic, how many times have they rolled of the shelf on to the floor.

Could be interesting, they recently disrupted the pet supplies market, selling pet food and accessories significantly cheaper than the major pet stores. Bulk buying power can do that.

Hrrmmm . . . a ~17% increase in the oil isn't a *huge* deal and *might* fall within some usual pricing pattern fluctuation but how in the heck do they justify DOUBLING the cost of the danged oil filter?

I sent the seller that same question, he said when they increase (Toyota) the seller has to increase costs as a flow on effect.

Cleaning, sharpening, or admiring?

What do you use for sharpening? I have a few different grade diamond particle sharpeners.

Also a few of mine. The wood handle one is from Opinel in France, it has a very thin blade, it doesn't lock open or closed, but the mechanism is so tight you need both hands to open and close it. The fat blade is from OKniife, part of OLight, and is ridiculously easy to open and close. The old piece is a Chassepot Bayonet from St Etienne in France, made in 1874, it's not for a muzzleloader, but it does have a curved blade to allow for ramrod use to clear the barrel of misfires, it cost me $36 about 20 years ago.PSX_20250320_150806.jpgPSX_20250320_150645.jpgPSX_20250320_150955.jpg

The ones shown are just for collection purposes, The price of knives have go insane, What once was $70 will now be $140 up!

China made knives are still cheap and the steel is great giving the Yanks are run for themselves.

I have a couple cheaper knives that I carry when needed because (you need a legal reason) 😏

I send mine off to get sharpen by a ex police officer i met on Australian Blade Forum he uses some sort i can't remember the name i will have a look at get back to you.

Cutting edge knives in Queensland has the gear.

Edit for Dave it's called a Wicked Edge
