What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Cleaned some dirty seatbelts.

Interesting. A certain online detailer with a distinctive mustache said to not clean seatbelts. The chemicals and machinery used could weaken the fibers and compromise the structural integrity of the seatbelt.

Sounds more like he simply doesn’t know how to get them clean…

I can make seatbelts look brand new.
No machines necessary either.

Boy, I've heard that, and I think it was even before I was on detailing forums. I had forgotten all about it. That certain cleaners could affect the nylon.

Here's something I found on the Meguiar's forum, but it was just posted by a member, not by anyone from Meguiar's:

"Never use anything stronger than a mild soap solution of luke warm water to clean the webbing. Other chemicals can attack the fibres in the webbing, causing them to deteriorate and weaken. Bleaches, solvents and dyes will definitely attack the webbing.

The above goes for any sort of webbing such as vehicle recovery equipment (slings, snatch straps, etc)."

That's a pretty cool method you have, Eldo, you close the door on the belt so you can use the hose on it? Do you let it hang out there to dry before retracting it?

I use clamps to keep the seatbelt retracted, the closed door simply prevents the interior from getting all wet. Yes, I keep the seatbelts retracted until they fully dry, but the last step I do is wring them out with a clean dry cotton terry towel to start the drying process and also helps get that last bit of dirty water off of them.

They’re completely dry in an hour or 2.

As far as the “webbing” becoming frail or seatbelts somehow becoming compromised due to cleaning them? That’s a bunch of malarkey… The seatbelts in my old Cadillac Deville got the same deep cleaning and they saved my life just fine. Not a scratch on me that night.lol.

And not that I’m a fan of using leather conditioner on a steering wheel, but who in the hell ever lost control of their car due to some leather conditioner? Absolutely no one. Maybe that 1 guy who says “Roo phez”… I wouldn’t put it past that clown.lol.

Holy cow, Eldo, what happened there??

Holy cow, Eldo, what happened there??

That was the car accident I was in 6yrs. ago. I got T Boned by a drunk driver and by the grace of God managed to get pulled out of my car pretty much unscathed, not even a scratch on my face and walking around believe it or not.

Unfortunately I did wind up with some pretty significant internal injuries and wound up in a coma for 13 days and a total of 1.5 months in the hospital before I was able to finally go home with a tube connected to my stomach. It was quite the ordeal but I made a full recovery.

Here’s the YouTube video.

This is what the inside of my car looked like from the impact. It’s a miracle I wasn’t somehow impaled by this wreckage. I had another picture which showed the drivers seat smushed into about half its width.

You were around during that time, you should remember those days.

I don't remember that, I've been a member here for a long time but I have taken a few years off here and there, that must have happened when I wasn't around. Scary stuff, glad you came out of it ok.

Cool. It’s actually good that you don’t remember it happening [not being sarcastic] because right when I finished that previous post I remembered when I had done the complete write up on my current Cadillacs initial detail years ago and I can remember you posting in that thread and that’s why I edited in that last comment thinking you had to have remembered all that taking place years ago…

So in a sense it’s good that you don’t remember, otherwise I would’ve felt like I rehashed that topic for no good reason, which I didn’t mean to do.

I can only comment on the slickness as it's the first time I've used it. It's hard to trust ANY spray sealant/detailer for longevity but for ease of use, gloss and SLICKNESS, it makes for a great stack, no doubt about it

I read the directions and it CAN infact be used as a drying aid as well, a win win and because its a smaller bottle, if for some reason you don't like it, you'll be able to use it elsewhere and/or up pretty quickly but 1 to 2 sprays after initial prime and your good...

TRUST ME ON THIS ONE GUYS

I had a bottle of Amplify and didn't notice it like I do with Feynlab Ceramic Spray Detailer. When you grab your door handle and it just slips very easily, well, you then start checking out other areas of the car

Added a coat of Polish Angel High Gloss. It left a very warm glow which I really like. Had the brake calipers painted body color recently and I coated them with Gtechniq Wheel Armour.

Fantastic, love the wheels.

So the TAOS got an OVERDUE wash this evening...LET'S GO

Since I could see the sap glistening under the dirt/grit/pollen I decided to do a pre-wash first, naturally. This pre-wash was a combo of Griot's Garage red soap (forgot the name, finished off a bottle and it was sitting in a random bottle) & Bilt-Hamber Touchless, so strong and foamy. The felt tip in my IK Foam Pro 12 needs to be changed out, not the wand I'm used to so it look longer to empty out the gallon of pre-wash

After the pre-wash was rinsed away I reached for Adam's graphene carwash, my trusty Griot's Garage mit on a stick and Gyeon wash mitt to a do a PROPER 2BM! The wash mitt just slid along the surface so easily, very satisfying🤌

Now I usually do the tires & wheels first but I wanted the pre-wash to REALLY break things down, plus the tip wasn't wanding like normal, so the tires & wheels were left last to clean, besides, the pre-wash was used on them to dwell anywho

I used Brake Buster and all my brushes except the short brissel brush, I used the longer Mother's Tire and Wheel brush on the wheel faces, as well as the sidewalls, didn't really need to be too aggressive on the coated tires. This was my first product and scrub on the re-coated tires and I'm happy to report they came out great and the finish was UNAFFECTED

The last step was a new product, TAC System water flow, used through the Griot's Garage foam gun. The ratio ended up being 1.5 oz/32 oz of water. Now the ADS EZ Beads was still holding it own but then again it's only a couple weeks old but now that pollen/sap mist season is here, a little "boost" is ok. I'm pleased to announce that this product not only finished great, smooth and great water beading but a jump in gloss (trying to keep up with Big Dave's wife's Rouge Sport-can't spell it's name) Even though the sun was going down and it was kinda getting cool, it dried easier than I thought, warmer weather it'll be even easier...VERY impressed with TAC System water flow

Tomorrow the EN will get another touch-free wash and once home I'll be trying Katiba Gloss Booster...stay "tuned"
