Optimum

Scott,

Since I'm a big Optimum user now and I'd like some Collonite for the impending NY "winter".....a need unlike yours in So. FL, what's your opinion regarding the "order of application" for, as below; Optimum Opti-Seal and Collonite 845?

> Apply the sealant (aka, Opti-Seal) first.......

> ......and then the carnauba wax (aka, Collonite 845)

or vice versa??

You mentioned applying Collonite first, but if I hadn't read the thread, I would have assumed the order that I listed (sealant first....then the wax).

Clarification??

Thanks.

You can use the Optiseal over the Collonite to seal in for extra durability and locking in the good looks. That said, use it quite sparingly as I always get some streaking.

I was under the assumption that you could top a sealant with a wax, but not the other way around. Wouldn't a coat of wax inhibit a sealant's ability to bond?

Funny you should ask, as I was wondering the same thing when I placed my order. The customer care rep at Autogeek said to apply the wax first, and that is what I did. When I asked if it could be done the other way around, he said he didn't see any reason why not. So I guess it's personal choice, either way *should* yield good results, but that was not the case on the silver 4runner I helped detail yesterday. You have to try out both methods to see what works best for you and your car's finish.

What are people's experience with the new Optimum Finish Polish? How does it compare to the finish polishes of other lines, e.g., Megs' 205?

Bump for this. Any users of the Finish Polish out there? I'm a big fan of Optimum and would like to know how this compliments the Optimum Polish II. I have an older, black car ('90 BMW) with a softer clear coat.

I like it pretty well. It's on par with UF and 205. Can't say that it's better, but at least as good. I find UF a little too thin and I get some sling from time to time, but the Optimum and 205 are very good. I'd like to have some Menz to compare it to.

I was also under the impression that there was a strict order of application that's to be adhered to: sealant first followed by wax.

Optimum polishes are still my go to polishes. Optimum Polish (old & II) finishes down so well that I've never seen a need for the Finish Polish. This doesn't answer your question, but I can't imagine the Finish Polish doing much more if the OP is broken down. By the same token I'd like to know what others think. Always open to try it .

So if you use Polish II you don't really need the final Finish Polish. How does use of the Poli-Seal relate to the Polish II and the Optimum Car Wax? I've already got the Polish II and the Car Wax, so is it redundant to use Poli-Seal? I would think so. It seems that the Optimum Car Wax is a good sealant also.

Correct. The Optimum Polish finishes LSP ready. Poli-Seal is great in that you get paint cleaning, very minor correction, and a layer of sealant with no cure time. After Poli-Seal Optimum Wax which is carnuba, I believe, is a good LSP. Yeah. I wouldn't hestitate to go Optimum Polish II; Poli-Seal; Optimum Wax.

There are some new Optimum goodies we have been testing/improving upon, I can't say exactly what other than you guys and gals will first be suspicious and in shock and then once again see detailing in a whole different light.

In regards to Opti-Seal over wax or vice versa......you can do it both ways. If Opti-Seal is your topper it will, according to Doctor G., migrate to the bottom or through the wax layer.

If used with Poli-Seal then you should apply Opti-Seal always on top as PS has cleaners in it and will remove the OS.

Our technique for applying Opti-Seal, along with dressings, is to spray them on utilizing an airbrush. I don't have any videos of me doing this but I should video it and post it up for all to see.

Since Opti-Coat and Opti-Seal are very similar in terms of application/flashing off and the best way to apply Opti-Coat is via sprayer I figured the same holds true for Opti-Seal and I was correct. You'll use more Opti-Seal but have better results.

Optimum Wax has both carnauba and sealant polymers. What is the advantage of using Poli-Seal IN ADDITION to Polish II and Optimum Wax? BTW, sorry for the noobie question but what does LSP stand for?

Glad that you ask. We sling those acronyms around pretty loosely. LSP=the last product you put on your car=most always for protection="Last Step Product".
It's pretty universal among many to put on a sealant. Sealants have more durability but can look a little plastic like. Then many top with a carnuba for a warmer, rich, deep, wet look. Best of both worlds so to speak. Keep re-applying the carnuba occassionally then
every number of months remove both and start over. That's why I thought that Poli-Seal (layer of sealant) topped with Optimum Wax (carnuba I thought but have never used it) would be a winner. Things are passing me up. I just read where one sealant can be applied over a carnuba and work it's way underneath.

OK, is that a good thing or a bad thing? I just noticed the photo you've used for your avatar. Beautiful photo--where is it?
