as some of you know i own my own company.landscaping .for 10 years and useally i take winters off and start up in the spring time .. but do to the cost of living these days its just not possible so i figured ill have to look for a winter job.. easy right? well nooooo.. applyed over 20 applications sears /ups/ lowes ect.. even though these only pay very little i figure ill do what i can do to support my family every little helps.. so far nothing every job i go to theres tons of poeple there looking for the same job:(man i cant even get a 7 dollor an hour job?:D its just so bad out there wow....

Do these companies know that you will only be working during the winter and then leave when Spring comes? I guess I could see where a store general manager would be hesitant to hire someone only to lose them once they are trained.

Is there anything around you that is seasonal towards winter like ski resorts? (I ask because I have no idea where you live)

A lot of the places that normally hire seasonal people aren't, like the mall etc. Their all cutting normal employees out in general. I still know people that just graduated college back in May and still haven't found a job even at the places they interned at. Had another friend who left down here, was hired by a company in NY so moved up there, and about 5 months later, they laid him off and ton of others (Robert Half).

Its pretty tough here in Kentucky too, I went from 8-10 cars per week down to 1-2 a week, so about a month ago I started looking for full time employement ( I have 12 years of Marketing & Sales background ) and man it is rough out there...probably applied to 40 different companies with about three interviews from all 40 and still have not landed a job, its very frustrating.........kinda gets you down at times............weather is pretty crappy here thats why my detailing business has slowed down so much and the fact everyone is afraid we as a nation are going into recession which means they are extremely careful now with their spending, which means very little business for me. But, Hang in brother it will get better.

Yup it's bad, I was going to quit but there is just nothing to go too. All employees have been forced to go part time or take a pay cut. If you didn't like it find another job. I'll work until they fire me or I get sick of the place and give my 2 weeks.

today i went to ups .filled out a very long application for drivers helper, to find out its only for 1 and a half week job 750 an hour. part time and your on call and when a driver needs you he calls you and you meet him some wereon his route with your car .. park your car in were ever and hop in his truck and when hes done he drops you off.....ugggg

That's true everyone, jobs are getting more scarce everyweek. I will be starting my detailing business at the start of 2009. To be honest, i already have prepared myself for a low number of clients because of the recession that we are in. All we can do is hang in there and do as our President elect Barack Obama has said, Watch and monitor our spending habits. Also the employment numbers for seasonal jobs are at a 24 year low i believe.:D

i just made myself a hotdog for lunch at homeIm the MANi would have loved to go out . but well gota cut back ya know ...

I was a witness to a drivers helper trhland. My wife answered the knock at the door, when my last Autogeek order came. Sure enough, there was no truck so i was we were hesitant to open the door, then the lady yells out UPS, mind you i know the UPS guys who delivers all of our packages. The delivery lady had a cart with other UPS packages that were to be delivered in my area. She said that she was a delivery driver helper. I thought it was a very dangerous job, we all hear the stories about pizza delivery men getting robbed every now and then. She said the job was killing her, and she had to meet the main driver at a checkpoint every morning.

With the 30 days paid vacation that you get the day you start!

Besides the 30 days vacation, the day you start:

100% medical (you and your family)
100% dental (you and your family)
$500,000 life insurance policy (I've been working 35+ years and can't even afford this)

Just a thought.
