I thought I read somewhere that topping WGDPS(after it's cured) with Sig Series II, or any sealant/carnauba combo isn't the best idea, but I don't remember why? Agree, disagree?

Durability:
Carnauba: 2-3 Months
Sealant: 4-6 Months or even 6-8
All depends on different factors as well.

Now look above. If you put sealant first, it will adhere to the paint the longest. Thats because sealants are formulated longer and has a stronger bond than Carnauba waxes. If you put it in reverse, say sealant over wax, well its not going to last long. Thats because the durability of Carnauba will fade way and so will the sealant on top of it. Its almost common sense. Remember, seal then shine!

When I stated any combination, I didn't mean carnauba over sealant or sealant over carnauba. I was reffering to any combination carnauba topped over a sealant. I thought that I read somewhere that it's not good to top a sealant over carnauba, that it's best to use one or the other.

My bad. I am really really tired. For the past few days I cant sleep. But anyways, are you saying that any brand of a sealant or wax can compromise one of the other? Or mixing a sealant or wax in one tub to make a concoction of the two? lol...i need sleep.Feed back please

I thought the same thing but after joining on AG I have seen an awfull lot on placing a wax over a sealant even from AG themselves. see here at the bottom of the article...

Carnauba Car Wax vs. Paint Sealants, carnauba wax reviews, paint sealant reviews

".......However, a growing number of enthusiasts simply refuse to choose. Instead, they coat their vehicles with a layer of sealant for long-lasting protection and then top it with a layer of carnauba for the dazzling shine. Even if you forget to reapply carnauba in 6 weeks, your paint won’t suffer. The Forum Favorite Kit will give a prime example of the shine you can get from a sealant topped with a carnauba. It’s the perfect marriage of beauty and longevity!"

Awesome! :dblthumb2:

waxes over sealants is more about final good looks that most other reasoning. Some suggest longer durability using both, but how many of us really ever get to the end of any product before trying a new coat of this or that ???

Best way to find out is to test it out yourself. You wont defeat the purpose or adversely affect either if you use it in the right order, Sealant > Wax. Get a good sealant, let is cure for 12 or so hours. Then hit one portion or one half of the car with a carnuaba and see if you can see the difference. That is typically done for added beauty because a sealant is meant to be a wax-replacement. if there is no difference in your eyes, leave well enough alone with your quality sealant. Of course, if your a detail nut, you cant leave well enough alone so you go for over the top by putting on the final touch of pure carnuaba. Then when you have about 6 months worth of protection on it, 1 week later you do it all over again with some different stuff!:dunno:

X2 most do it for that deep wet look the wax will leave on the car.

I do not see how people see anything added when a wax is put on top of a sealant. Since the wax is sitting on top of the sealant how can it really bond to the paint to actually do its job. I have tried this several times just for shites and giggles and there is no difference in look what so ever. A lot are just wasting the wax and/or time when doing the sealant /wax combo.

True from my understanding both wax and sealants have to bond to the paint. So if this is true since the wax is sitting on top of the sealant and not the paint it would wash off in a wash or two since it was not bonded correctly. Right?

I'm glad this thread was started. The reason I was thinking to add the wax was not for looks because I love the looks I already get. Can't imagine it being better. There was a couple threads I read a few weeks ago that were stating the wax offered some protection that the sealants were not offering. But based on a couple of these later posts in this thread from people who have helped me in the past I am back to thinking I am fine with my Ultima Sealant and the wax will just be wasted (for my purposes at least).

From reading the previous posts, you will definitely think my process on my own car is a complete waste then, but for me, I love the depth and wetness of the combination I use. I use WG DPS 3.0 and after the cure time, I finish it with a combination of Dodo Blue Velvet and then Dodo Purple Haze. So sealant + Hard Wax + Soft Wax. I am sure it is all in my head, but for my midnight blue beauty, this gives me the reflection, depth, shine and beading that I absolutely love.

Here is a picture that was taken this past Saturday, the last time the car was completely detailed was several months back.

I have seen a difference where you apply Mothers Reflections (synthethic)and then apply Mothers Top Coat (synthetic/carnuaba blend) on certain paints especially metallics.

Sealants bond to the cc...Nuba's sit on the cc. Sealants need 12 hrs. for the polymers to cross link and bond to the paint. Nuba's just needs the solvents to vent.
