Black Z06 Polish or not?

When I wrote my reply I guess I was answering it in more of the general sense of how anyone could look at their options, in the same situation, not just Gary.

To be honest I didn't even look to see where he lived when I replied, my bad, I just threw out some considerations. After almost 16 years of posting answers to forums I have a tendency to write for a bigger picture or wider audience when I type out an answer, sometimes that works and sometimes that doesn't but considering some threads will be around for years it usually works as you'll have lots of members and lurkers read what you write.

Would jeweling your paint with 85rd and a blue pad be something that you can do on a semi regular basis say every couple of months or would you end up removing to much of the clear coat?
 
Gary, I have the same problem as you, but being a college student, I only have a daily driver right now. My problem is that I try to keep it as show finish as possible, and these problems need to stop! I am very OCD and want everything perfect all the time, which is why I cannot wait to get my dream car to only drive on weekends and nice days. There's that word of perfection that I desire, but will never obtain it.... no matter how much I try. So, as my girlfriend says.... "Sometimes you need to let things go." I try to hold on to that when I am trying to get to make anything perfect.

On a side note.... my problem (in college) has always been that I cannot study unless my car is cleaned and the apartment is clean as well. It is also why I try to refuse to make anything other than an A. But, I think I am progressing on "de-perfecting" the little stuff so I can gradually help myself in the long run. (High blood pressure, anxiety, etc).

After all, my life is more important than a huge chunk of metal.

Maybe once a year or when you see swirls in the paint when it is in the need of polishing (on average of prob about a year if the car is a DD). If it is a garage queen or weekend driver, I would say maybe once every two years or even longer if you have the proper washing and waxing techniques. Hope that helps!

I definitley would not suggest doing it every couple months...
 
If it were a DD I'd offer up some PB black hole until it had enough defects to make it worth the time of polishing... but given its a GQ and you have not done it in two years knock your socks off...

I don't have PTG, but a friend of mine does and he uses 85rd every 2 months for over 2 years now and noticed no significant change. I use 85rd, 87mc and Ultrafina with a gray and blue pad for over 2 years, as my car is a daily driver with no garage and have no problems.

Gary, from one black vette owner to the other,polish it. Mine is a garage queen like yours and when I have those sutle swirls I always polish them out. Either 85rd or UF on a blue finiishing pad works best on our hard clear coats. I have tried other finishing polish on the number of vettes I have polished and nothing and I mean nothing else comes close to 85rd or UF. :dblthumb2:

Actually I do find the things you write very insightful and yes I realize that it's for a broad group. It's just we northerners do get a little antsy and testy come middle of December. ( You should see us in February). No malice intended, just a little mid-winter humor. :grouphug:
 
Thanks for all the comments. I had already decided to polish it before I posted the thread. I was starting to tape up the trim when I pulled it out of the garage to take a few sun shots

I really wondered how many or you guys would polish your car if it was in this condition. From the comments it sounds like most of you would.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I hope to find time to polish it this weekend.
 
I have about 2x that in swirls in my trucks hood and am tempted to redo it :) and it is a DD. To cold up here though to work on it with no garage though

I second that my sir. I find 85rd better than unltrafine to tell you the truth.... and I have used 3m for years until I tried 85rd just tonight. It is amazing finishing polish and my new favorite.

I was being mean and did not want to hang around it all afternoon. he he he I know they did not use my Flex since that black paint was way too hot sitting outside.

They did it HIS WAY which was a 5 stage. Don't ask. He has a PC. he he he Here is what they did:

Meg's 105
Menz Nano
Menz Final Glaze
Menz Final Polish
Menz Finishing Glaze
Rejex Paint Sealant

It they would have just brought the Z01 over to MY PLACE, things would have run sooo much smoother and quicker and alot less time in doing everything.

oh yeah. they had to keep the car cover on it since it was almost 100 degrees outside with plenty of humidity to make it worse.

sparkie, I haven't had as much time to work on it as I had hoped. I have it all polished except for the driver's side. I doesn't look like I'll have time to work on it again until late Monday afternoon. Here's a shot of the roof after I polished it. I'll post up the detail when I finish it.
