KB Method on the Flex?

Why was his writeup never published?

There's plenty of threads on it over on MOL and Autopia...

I need to talk to the source and get the definitive reasoning behind it. Until then, I personally haven't bought off on the idea yet. I don't care if everyone else has bought off on it and uses it, that's up to you, but I'll wait to make judgment after talking to Kevin.

:)

From what I've read, it doesn't seem like KBM is that much different from other ways of polishing. The only key difference is priming the pad. Then again, what do I know?! lol

Let us know what you think after talking with KB.

While it may seem like the procedure is minor, alot of people have shown with the right product (105/205) the results cut down procedures and reduce workload while still giving an amazing finish.

Has there been any progress on this gray area? Thanks.

If you have a flex 3401, all it takes is a little experimentation.

I am now at a point, where the 3401 beats the rotary in correction work. You just need to think out of the box. Right pad and compound = :props::dblthumb2::xyxthumbs:

I have the Flex 3401 and just received the new GG random orbital. I actually like the GG better than the 3401, and it's more geared for the KBM. Plus, the GG doesn't fight me like the Flex and I can use 4" pads.

You CAN use a 3" pad on the flex. I do it all the time.

Thanks, didn't know that. I like the GG better, overall. Much more enjoyable user experience for me. Forced rotation is a nice feature of the 3401, but it has its drawbacks, IMO.

Like what?

When polishing any curved or non flat panel, the forced rotation makes the polisher want to run away. The 3401 likes to wander, generally speaking. I have both, so I'm not being biased.

Did you spend enough time with it? With proper procedure and just a bit of practice it works amazing.
Yeah, I've had the Flex for awhile. Next time your trying to polish a curved panel, you might notice how the polisher likes to wander. :) There's some others that feel the same way as me, and there's people who love the Flex. To each their own. :xyxthumbs:

Just taking a wild guess here, but have you thought that the pad could be dry 07? What methods are you doing for pad prep?

I prime the pad very well. I've done a lot of research via KBM. This is not an opinion, it's factual that forced rotation of any machine will cause it to want to wander on any non flat panel. Some people may not notice this, or they just don't mind. I like a DA because it does not have forced rotation. You control the machine, it does not try to control you. :dblthumb2:

Personally I feel more in control of the Flex. Yes, it has an idea of what it wants to do sometimes but it just need some guidance. It runs so smooth compared to the Griots I feel like I have more control of the Flex then I did the Griots. Sure, the griots doesn't try to walk the same but it sure does vibrate. After 30 minutes of that it just takes the fun out of it for me. That's why they offer more then 1 type of polisher. To each their own:dblthumb2:

No doubt it runs with less vibrations than the Griot's ROP. The Flex doesn't really vibrate at all. However, something about the counter clockwise rotation is weird to me, never got used to it. I think the Flex 3401 is a VERY well designed, ergonomic polisher. Very stout! I do not want to sway anyone away from it, that's not my intention, just my opinion. Most people love it! :xyxthumbs:
