Should a Flex 3401, M105 or Ultimate compound, and an orange pad be able to handle neglected paint? I know this is a very subjective question, but I'm just not sure how aggressive yellow is? I'm polishing a few cars in the area. :)

You should be fine with the org pads. It is always good to have a few on hand, just in case the org are not strong enough.
Like many state, it is good to start least aggressive first.

Yes. (That's the simple answer) :)

Like you included in your post it's kind of subject or relative because which pad and product combo works the best depends upon how hard the paint is and how deep the defects are and the old skill and experience factors but in a nutshell, the Orange pads with M105 with the 3401 will tackle most of everything you come across.

Here's a tip, anytime you run into hard to work on paint you can always shrink down the size of your work area.

It's been fun watching you really get into detailing since joining the forum.

With your guidance, it makes it that much easier and fun to get addicted, but I love this addiction!!! Thanks for ALL of your *detailed* knowledge! :dblthumb2: :props:

My order didn't ship out today, so I might cancel the yellow. Not sure yet. :)

I've found the LC orange pads work really well with my Makita 9227 and Meguiar's M105. This combination can handle just about any correction I've come across.
