Has anyone else tried the Ultimate Protectant Dash and Trim Restorer on exterior black trim?

I tried it, and it seemed to streak alot. I tried it on neglected smooth black trim and it seemed to do ok, but streaked. And it was hard to remove all of the streaks. I also tried it on a mirror and streaked and hazed a little. I was not impressed with my first use. Maybe the streaks diminish as its washed.

Maybe my technique is wrong too, I wiped it on and off with a microfiber cloth, and if I let it dry too long the streaks would get worse. And layering it seemed to dull it down a little. Does anybody else have a different technique in making this product work like its suppose to?

I have tried Blackwow, and it does a much better job with no streaks. But its a little greasy after application, and a magnet for dust. However the Meguiars Ultimate Protectant is dry and does not have a greasy feel. I am just having problems with streaks. Maybe I need a little more experience with this Meguiars product. Suggestions?

I applied it to a test area on my door panel with a mf applicator pad, then buffed with a mf towel. I turned out great! I haven't tried this on trim yet but now I'm curious. Did you clean the area first?

Yeah, I cleaned it with meguiars all purpose cleaner first. Maybe I need to apply it with a sponge or foam applicator to reduce any streaks instead of the microfiber rag.

If you find yourself over on Meguiar's forum (MOL), look up the reviews of this product. Most, if not all the reviewers found the applicator did make a difference not only on the ease of application, but also on the final look. They noted that using a foam applicator was the best tool to apply UP with.

I started using it, but went back to 303. UP was a bit too greasy looking on my dash, but looked great on exterior trim. However, it attracted DUST like crazy, which is why I went back to 303.

Matt does 303 streak in the rains? I was using megs trim dressing in the spray can. it works great on fender flares but when it rains it streaks

I have never noticed any streaking/running with 303. I apply it often to my convertible top and my trim, and have never had an issue.

Also note that I always thoroughly buff off the residue a few minutes after application, regardless of what I'm using it on. :xyxthumbs:

Hmm, I was going to buy the UP for the exterior trim and interior of our CR-V. I guess, I will hold off. It was supposed to be dried to the touch and not greasy. Also, it is not good that it attracts dust. That's dissapointing as I was looking forward to try this product.
Oh well, saves me money and I can use what I have.

Here are the directions per the AG Store:

Apply a thin layer of Meguiars Ultimate Protectant onto desired surface with a soft microfiber or foam applicator. Rub it in and let dry.

I started with the least aggressive media (foam pad):

On my 22 year old black trim, I took a foam pad (least aggressive) and worked a little product into a small area of my back bumper. I admit I first tried using et as a wowo and then wodwo, because my eyes are shot so I just glance at directions. :)

Some areas absorbed the product better than others and so I worked a little more into just those areas with the corner of a saturated m/f (only because my hands are also shot.)

When it stopped absorbing, it looked uniform I moved on to another 6" area.

No wiping was required as there was nothing to wipe because I worked it into, not onto. Haven't notice dust problems.

Hope this helps, if your like me and need durable UV protection.

Also, my bumpers look so nice I am starting to get "hit" on by some pretty hot AARP chicks. I think it's because it also looks great on black rubber "walker" tips.

I used UP last night, a little disappointed. I used it on a plastic rear view mirror housing. Looks greasy and turned the housing into a dust ball today.

The plastic on the housing was flat with no texture. I used it on a textured engine cover and it didn't seem to have the same greasy look. It also really smells like lotion.

Not sure why you guys are getting such poor results. All the reviewers over on MOL said they really liked it.

Mike P. was discussing the dust issue on another forum.
As I recall, He was talking about how every wax or sealant he had ever tested on paint attracted dust. Something to the effect that unprotected paint attracts less dust.

He also said that it was a trade off: "Do you want protection or no dust".

Does that apply to UP?
:)

Did some more research about wiping down the trim to remove other dressings with 10:1 APC prior to UP application. [From a senior rep on another forum]. Hope that helps.

I tried this product again and did exactly what was on the link to the Meguiars forum, and had much better results. No streaking or hazing problems whatsoever today. I used it on a newer vehicle, but the black trim was dull, the Megs UP made it look much better!

Awesome! Glad to see that this is helping :xyxthumbs:

Thanks to everyone with the suggestions. I first thought I would be completey dissappointed with this new product. But it will definitely have a place in my detailing routine.
