Orange peel correction, hand vs Pnuematic palm sander (long post)

Generally speaking, unless your detailing degree has been awarded by one of the Mike(s), you leave the factory orange peel untouched :-)

Nice work Dave... I have a car that needs to be cleaned out of OP. Any last conclusions as to what happened to the pads to cause marring on the finish? I use Menz. PG a lot. I get hazy results with Orange and White CCS pads, or all LC pads for that matter. What simple step forward procedure would you recommend after the sanding? Oh, and its after market paint.

Thankz..DH

got mine thrown in the wet-sanding, cutting, and buffing section as of now

Checked it out, nice work! :xyxthumbs:

That isn't orange peel, looks more like a moonscape! I'm guessing whoever sprayed it did textured ceilings in their last job. Shoulda stuck with it...

Damn Dave maybe I will have to come up there. I have some factory orange peal going on but am SUPER hesitant to touch it...

Sure, shoot me a PM if you want. Factory Orange Peel is a bit of a different story though, much less room for error. We could "knock the tops off" to lessen the appearance, I'm sure John at Metropolitan Detail wouldn't mind taking a couple PTG readings for you before we do anything.

That OP was bad I don't think I've ever seen one that bad. Great job:dblthumb2:

Yeah, it was bad. Thanks!

HA Ha, probably some good advice there.

I think it was just me being in a hurry. Pad cleaning on the fly and being sure to break it down thoroughly are important, but I think the paint itself is what really makes the difference. I've found the re-painted panels on this car is very "workable", wish I knew what kind of paint it was... :dunno:
