First and foremost, I'd like to personally thank Mike P. and Barry Theal for their input and advice on this vehicle! :D

This customer is a collector of trucks and SUVs it seems. ;) He has 6 trucks, 3 of which are Land or Range Rovers, a Mercedes SUV that looks a heck of a lot like a Jeep, a black Ford F250 Super Crew Dually and a BMW Z3 Roadster. lol

Anyway, this was the dullest of the bunch. The paint was almost pink when he first brought it to me over 2/3s of the vehicle. The passenger side had been repainted with a base-coat/clear coat so it wasn't oxidized, but SEVERALY scratched and swirled up.

I ended up using a plethora of different pads and products on it to try and clear everything up, but in the end, the best combo was 5.5" Surbuf pads with M105 to remove the oxidation (destroyed 6 5.5" surbuf pads on this vehicle. :( ), then followed up with M205 on white 6.5" CCS and 2 coats of Poorboy's World EX-P sealant for protection.

PROCESS:

- 2-bucket Method wash
- clayed with Griot's Garage Claybar around the wheel wells and lower sections.
- Compounded with Griot's Garage ROP and 5.5" Surbuf pads using M105.
- Polished out with 6.5" Lake Country CCS White pad and M205.
- Protected with 2 coats of Poorboy's World EX-P. 20 hour cure time between coats.
- Wheels cleaned with Meg's Wheel Brightener
- Tires scrubbed with Bleche-White then dressed with Meg's All-Season Dressing
- Plastics dressed with 303 Aerospace Protectant and a bit of Meg's ASD to help turn them black again for a while. The bumper end caps and the lower molding need to be painted, but he didn't want to pay for that work. He didn't want perfection, just for the vehicle to look better. ;)

Onto the PICS!!

The entire truck was taped off, not just what you see in these pictures:

All of the tires had this clay on them and inside of the wheel wells. Very difficult to clean:

And that's it! Sorry there weren't more sun shots. :( It was a bit overcast and the clouds wouldn't give me more time. Comments and constructive criticism greatly accepted!

Looks great Adam, very nice work as usual!! I am also very impressed with your taping abilities. When I tape off a vehicle it's almost comical. I end up with little bity pieces of tape all over itself...Any way great turn around!

Excellent work Adam! I imagine he was quite pleased with the turnaround.

That is amazing, that truck looked very Chaulky! Nice job!

Very nice, indeed. I love me a Land Rover (probably because I own one). That Discovery 1 is in unbelievable condition. Very nice work.

Holy crap! That looks like new paint. The hood especially looks great, nice job man. Also, cool progress pics of the hood.

Nice work Adam. Six pads...does it just wear out, separates?

What a turnaround. Great job!

Thank you! :D

haha I hated taping this thing off, because all of the rubber around the windows was pretty much DONE with dryrot and such. If polish or compound had touched it, I'd have stains all over the place. Thanks!

He was speechless. He actually just walked circle around it for about 15 minutes with a huge smile on his face! He told me I out-did myself. haha Thanks for the compliments!

heh ;) Thank you!

Wow, car look new again. Good job.

Thanks Slava!

Yeah, he actually has 2 more Rovers for me to detail. One is a 4-door beater and the other is a 2-door Defender that's his toy. Thanks for looking!

Thanks man. :D I had a good time. There was no time-frame on returning this one, so I just took my time with it.

Yeah. It was the paint. The pads actually lasted through 4-5 cars, but the oxidation on this one was a bit rough on the Surbuf pads and there was enough resistance to slowly tear the microfinger pad off of the foam. It wasn't the pads, it was what I was doing with them. ;) It still worked, and at $11 for two, I can live with that loss I suppose. heh Thanks for the kind words!

Excellent work. How much time do you figure to complete?

I had about 18 hours in this truck getting into all of the nooks and crannies the best that I could. The portion just under the front grill had to be done completely by hand using just a finger or two covered with a MF towel. It was interesting and a good learning experience. Also, the reaction was priceless. ;) Thank you!

That was one heavily oxidized Rover! Great job!

Thanks Rohn!

Waaaaaa! How? Feed back please I just ordered 4, and am soooo excited to try it out!

They weren't new pads and I'd done a few cars with them, but the oxidation was causing a bit too much friction for the microfinger surface to stay adhered to the foam backing. I kind of expected it, but didn't think I'd go through all 6 of them. 2 of the pads the microfinger pad completely separated from the foam portion. It was worth it though for the outcome. Buy with confidence! I seriously abused them and they still got me through this truck and several other cars before giving out. I highly recommend them for base-coat/clear-coat paints. Maybe not so much for severely oxidized paints like this. A rotary and wool is probably best, but I had crappy wool and didn't really have that option. :( I stuck it out with foam pads.

Excellent turn around!!

Thank you!
