Just got this in today from my order. Pretty confused looking at the disc. Cant figure out how they stick to something. Or at least how I attach them to the 3" backing plate let alone the backing plate to the DA.

There are 5 adapters to use to put the plate on the DA(or other things). As far as discs to plate that's all Velcro. Did you get the interface pad?

See thats what i figured. The part that stumps me most is there is no velcro on the backing plate or anything on the foam disc that looks like it peels off and sticks to the backing plate.

It almost looks like the backing plate and discs both use
the hook (rough) part of velcro and the interface pad uses the loop side to make the parts stick together. (make sense??)

What are you both referring to as interface pad?

The foam pad shown in that link that goes between the BP and the disc.

Perhaps it would help to see what you actually bought if your pads don't have a velcro backing.

Here is what I got.

I did not see anywere on the 3m section about a interface pad.

I assume the back of the discs have the same texture as the backing plate? (rough side of Velcro)?

Looking at the site I don't see a interface pad by 3M for 3"
discs. I don't know now. I see a 6" interface pad. I think that's the problem, missing interface pad.

Is that a Hookit backing plate and box of hookit II sanding discs? That won't work... I'm pretty sure the "Hook" side of Hook-it II is like little flat topped mushroom caps, not really "hooks" and the loop side of hookit II is more "matted fibers" than loops. Can't remember for sure which was what when I had a similar confusion. Either way you should get a soft interface pad similar to 3M Hookit 6 Inch Soft Interface Pad, 3M 05777 but Hookit II and 3"

AG does not seem to stock the 3M 3" Interface Pad to fix this guys problem. This is what I said in post #2.

Let me look into this tomorrow... I have an article in the works on the 3M sanding system so as soon as I get it done there will be a reference article with correlating part numbers and lots of pictures.

Whatever the deal is we'll make it right...

:)

Thats why I said...

But if the BP is hookit he'll need to exchange it for hookit II. Or something... LOL

Mike will have him all fixed up in no time. :props:

Indeed, something is hinky here. They need to differentiate between Hook It and Hook It II.

Well dam pretty much had all the answers across the board in under an hour. Sucks though that I needed to do some wet sanding tomorrow on a vehicle. :(

I made the same mistake when I ordered my Trizact HookitII sanding pads. I ordered the wrong backing plate. I should have ordered the 3M backing plate for them.
I hope that this is the correct backing plate
3M™ Hookit™ II Disc Pad with Adapters, 3m backing plate, sanding disc backing plate

If it isn't please let us know the correct one. I had planned to call Meghan to see about shipping the wrong one back for credit and add the correct one to the Father's Day sale order I will be placing.
