OVERATED: Which Products In Your Opinion?

That's weird. I have a lug brush and am still using the first foam that it came with. The other 6 are still in the bag!

Mine have lasted 3 washes now and still look new. If you stuff them holes that are too small, I can believe it would get torn up or if the recesses have any sharp points.

As offered many times before ... some products dont just fit your environment and uses. Not that all are bad products, as others might find joy in something you dislike and its ok.

Its often times more than just user-error, it can be a perceived difference over another product or tool that offers them a better experience. Thats why we all have the power of choice.

I think Mikes words of advice fit perfectly on this post --- "Find what you like ... and use it often".

a while back some have mentioned they've experienced pitting using some of them...

Poorboy's World SSR causing "pitting"? How does a polish cause pitting? I've used the entire PB's line on over a hundred cars... never had a problem.

I am not affiliated with Poorboy's World, but I guarantee you that Steve and Chris will address any issue with their products and make it right.

there's a thread or two on it over at Autopia. When the site is completely safe, i'll try and dig it up...

I'm starting to wonder if they are ever going to get that mess fixed.

Any wax or sealant that costs over $75 which produces "superior" results purely because of the buyer's refusal to admit he got ripped off.Im the MAN

Sorry but I disagree. There are "some" products over 75 that are a total failure. However, there are also "some" that are over 75 that are an absolute gem.

Souveran and Fuzion come to mind. Put that side by side to a lower end wax (particularly on a dark colored vehicle), and the difference is night and day.

I will have to agree about Souveran as it looks awesome on dark colored cars.I usually use UPGP but decided to use the Souveran this weekend and the look is just wow!!!

I know it's a popular item for the AG brethren, but the Pinnacle Left-handed Smoke Shifter didn't work for me at all. I know it has a steep learning curve, but I just couldn't get the hang of it. I finally gave it to the local Boy Scout troop.

megs last touch. it smells nice but for me not that great. for a drying q/d it smeared like crazy .

Really? I love this stuff!

When you used it as a drying aid did you have it at 1:1 or full strength?

If people are referring to the one I am thinking of, I have been using mine for years and the foam pad is just now starting to show wear.

full..maybe i should have cut it?

I have better results with it at 1:1. ;)

The lubricity it has is what I like most about it....great as a clay lube too but it's so slick that it makes it hard to get tape to stick afterward. :D

I'm currently using Optimum Instant Detailer as I ran out of LT. The Optimum Detailer seems to be pretty close in performance IMO and smells just as good. :props:

Rasky, I agree that Meg's Last Touch is great! I love that stuff!

I think swissvax products are overated. At least over priced hahaah!

Please reread my post slowly and carefully. I suggested that expensive waxes and sealant which produce superior results only when the user refuses to accept he got ripped off are overrated.

If you believe you obtained superior results results by objective measurement, the product is not overrated.

Now, I challenge anybody to a blind test:

Prep a car hood and divide into quarters. Apply Meguiar's 21 or Nxt Tech Wax to one quarter and three different expensive supreme waxes/sealants to the other portions and identify which is which.

Wanna bet most if not all of you wax snobs couldn't tell the difference?

I seem to recall Mike Phillip's Meguiar's vs. Zaino Corvette hood demos at Meguiar's on Line.:buffing:

full..maybe i should have cut it?

EDIT: i realized you are talking about the megs product, sorry!

are you talking about optimum instant detailer? if so, i absolutely LOVE that stuff. BUT, i use it at a 4:1 ratio with distilled water. i spray it out of an old megs instant detailer bottle. i use it in many ways, including while drying and i use it as a traditional instant detailer when i don't need something super solvent heavy. it makes light reflections so dazzling, leaves the surface SUPER slick, and doesn't streak at all. wipes away so easily.

great stuff!

my contribution to the thread as far as overrated? DP MF wash, optimum metal polish and pinnacle liquid souveran.

micro-restore > DP MF cleaner (by a lot)
good old mothers tub > optimum metal polish (by a lot)
pretty much any LSP > pinnacle liquid souveran. it's SO average i don't even use it. bah.
