OVERATED: Which Products In Your Opinion?

For me it's the Dodo Supernatural wax. I just tried the 30ml sample I bought during winter time and it did a decent job but I think my expectations were too high. I will not buy again given the price being asked, I will keep using the 30ml sample on my motorcyle instead, until depletion. Pretty good results on the bike.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fine wax but in my case for my black Caddy CTS it did not give me the "wow effect" I was hoping for. I am getting better results with Fuzion and Souveran, plus they are much easier to apply and buff than the Supernatural. I am also getting better results with the Autoglym HD Wax.

I recently pulled the trigger on the Swissvax Concorso, can't wait to get it, that one better be good !!! :buffing:
 
Good to hear as I was going to try supernatural next as I'm currently using souveran and Fuzion on a black Porsche. I may have to try the new supernatural when it is available then.
 
That's why I do like samples :) Maybe for others they were very pleased and prefered the Supernatural over the Fuzion and or Souveran but in my case it was clearly inferior... but that's only my own experience. Also it was "caking" a lot on my lake country blue bad with my polishin pal (the yellow grip)

Fuzion and Souveran are soooo easier to use and shine more. Autoglym is tougher to apply and buff but gave me excellent results as well, even shinier but it did not last long and became more faded rapidly than Souveran and Fuzion.

From what I read pretty much everywhere, Swissvax Concorso is the real step up above Souveran and Fuzion. I should be able to try it in about 2 weeks. Will post my comments.

For the price so far Souveran + maintaining with Souveran Liquid wax is the stuff for black cars. Nice shine and very easy to use.

I really like SN, as much or more than Souveran and Fuzion. It has a very bright shine with a lot of sparkle that is still warm, and has great clarity.
By the way, it just occurred to me that the title of this thread is misspelled. OVERRATED is how the word is actually spelled.
 
Another vote for Dodo supernatural, nothing special according to the price
Souveran blow it away on white, or black color car

This is a rare device and it took me a while to find one. I personally didn't have any difficulty with the learning curve. Are you right handed? I'm left handed. I picked it up and the first time I tried it, it felt natural and was very easy to use. I truly enjoy my Pinnacle Left-handed Smoke Shifter. It is not an overrated product and was a great value. Although rare and difficult to find it is well worth the time and energy spent to find one and a real joy to add to your detailing arsenal.

Call and check with AG folks first as this item is not listed in their on-line catalog. The sales folks are well aware of this prized item and are happy to assist you. Occasionally AG does run out, is temporarily out of stock or they are on backorder. If that's the case they will be glad to direct you to other vendors that should have them in stock. I have heard the Poorboy's Left-handed Smoke Shifter is also an excellent choice. So in the unlikely event AG does not have any in stock please feel free to give the folks at Poorboy's a call.

Well, I only have one of them, but my Meguire's spray bottle I bought here with my Wheel Brightener lasted less than 100 pumps. Trigger no longer works.
 
Did you rinse out thge sprayer? I heard with WB you need to rinse it out because the acid will ruin the inside bits.

I dont have any product I would consider overated. Just a few that were let downs. Meguairs hot shine made the tires super wet, but that all dissapeared after driving in the rain.

I didnt like the turtle wax headlight resto kit. Worked okay, was never able to get out all the scratches it left behind and the sealant it came with last maybe two washes and it was gone. Have to buff that light now once a month to keep it relatively clear.
 
I'm trying to rinse out now, but probably too late. I think the sprayers here are just a generic brand and not made by Meguire's anyway.

I have no experience with this product; however, did you agitate or just spray on rinse off?

Every single wheel cleaner needs to be agitated for it to work its magic. Any wheel cleaner that says otherwise is lying.
 
Hmmm....looks like there is no escaping th "overrated bug". I see this on music forums and it makes me nuts. It's all so subjective and sometimes based on first impressions. I used Griot's polish once and thought it was crap. Read up on some complaints and discovered I might have been applying too much product. Tried again and it worked perfectly.

There is no doubt some products aren't as good as advertised, but maybe using over the long haul might reveal some surprises.

Very true. I guess some overrated threads are overrated?
 
My problem is that I probably wouldn't know a seriously underperforming product if it bit me. But I've learned that prep is everything. Like painting a car: the results are directly related to the prep work.
I've used some products that were hard to remove but the shine is fine when I finally get it buffed out correctly.

If there was an area of products that underperform it would be the ones that claim to make seats and fabrics look like new.
They never do what they claim.
 
So far any microfiber cleaner - homemade laundry soap and some vingear works great! Works very well for pads to which I fill 2 gallons of water and about 1 cup of vingear and let set for 15 or so minutes, and wax, product, comes right off, rinse and air dry.

For those saying 845, must be how your applying that product, I always have beadings months afterwards, 4-7 months. Sold a car about a year or so ago and used 845 and the guy emailed me asking what I used because it was still beading...

I was an "audiophile" at one time and learned that most of this stuff is marketing. I have weeded out my products and use only the ones that give me results. No marketing hype.

I like using regular laundry soap free of any softeners and all then doing a final rinse with white vinegar.

Although I have always wanted to try a dedicated MF wash such as Blackfire, CG, or Pinnacle.
