New crystal red vette, I have applied two coats of wolfgang sealnt 3.0 and then 2-3 coats of Optimum spray wax. Everything looks great. Now i have driven it and will do so some more this weekend, what is the best method to put it back in the garage. Is this the time for a detail spray, do I need to wash prior to the detail spray (assuming no major dirt or rain).

If I do use a detail spray to clean the surface is it then ok to do another coat of the spray wax?

Yes, i am a new guy and need help, thanks Scott

What Next?.....Pickup a beautiful Lady for the passenger seat!Im the MANQuick Detail spray and wipe you are set.

thanks, got the beautiful lady part, if a quick detail is good to go, seems everyone is on board with the fk425

Had to do it! :D

FK 425 seems to be the detailer of choice for most.....Make sure you use a fine light mist otherwise it can streak if it's to heavy....Slick and shinny stuff for sure.

Be very careful QDing after driving much. Be sure you don't have dirt, bugs, bird bombs, etc. I only QD very light dust or finger prints. Or as a drying aid...If at all questionable it is much safer to pull out the hose and buckets.

I personally think the Dodo Juice TROPICAL RED MIST is pretty amazing stuff...! But thats imo. :dblthumb2:

An ONR or DP Rinseless wash & Gloss cleaning would be another choice if there is any dirt, bugs or bird bombs if you don't feel like an all on wash. Tad is absolutely correct A QD is for very light dust, fingerprints and that sort of thing, anything more than that get out the buckets for your choice of washing methods.

I prefer to use a spray wax after a traditional hose and bucket wash, that way you are sure that it is being applied to a truly clean surface. You can also use it as a drying aid if you like.

thanks everyone, seems the best thing is to not be lazy and wash the thing, like the miller time also! Thanks Scott:xyxthumbs:

Scott,
First, welcome and hang with us. Sounds like you are doing an awesome job and I love DGPS overlayered with OCW. Just tried Fuzion which might be very nice over DGPS on your red vette.

Suggestions:
1) drive the car that you love more and wash it when it needs it :)
2) wash it and put it away. ONR or double bucket wash, your choice. (maybe you really don't love to drive the car?)
3) use a good detailer if it is not too dirty, or just wash it
4) deal with the swirls if you put them in the paint. AG has some great products to fix whatever you do to it.

Me... Ship me your vette to SoCal and I will find a nice garage for it. I willl lower my standards and try to handle the pain of driving a chevy. My son keeps asking me for a vette and he can't drive yet... He likes Black and Silver but he'd learn to love the crystal red. It's all good! :)

thanks, funny I am a huge 9er fan from south Florida, so black and silver not working for me, thus the color of the car. Love Calf. but doubt the car will ever make it out there. Thanks for the info

Scott, No worries. I'm not a "Traitor" fan.

Maybe I'm old school but the best way to enjoy a car is to drive it, often... Enjoy!

Congrats on what appears in sig to be the new GS. I too suggest using ONR (Optimum No Rinse) or traditional wash. You never know whats in that dust (like perhaps sand / small gravel) and a simple detail spray could introduce marring.

Leave the detail spray to aid in drying or after washing to add back the zip between wax sessions. FK425 (warmer) or FK146 (crisp) is great for this and add some anti-static abilities. This can help on the Vettes aerodynamic rear which seems to attract dust quickly too.

That is quite a car, lets see some photos!!

Any time dust settles on a painted surface it's giving you the opportunity to scratch the surface trying to remove it.

Dust is made up of fine particles from dirt to pollen to air borne pollutants. All of these are abrasive and when wiped across the surface will leave micro scratches. Although better than wiping dry, using a detail spray is only marginally better.

Detail spray lifts the particles from the surface and suspends them. The problem here lies in the wiping action when your removing it. Wiping causes the dust to collect in a nice row on your favorite Microfiber towel creating a nice row of dirt ready to scratch the surface.

The "best" way is to float it off by washing and hosing it down with water. Water floats the dust off the car without scratching. Once complete, grab a leaf blower and dry the car, this way nothing toughed the surface except soap solution and rinse water.

What do you do know? Enjoy it!! :props:

Scrib - first off :welcome: to the forum from your apparent neighbor in Lake Clarke Shores!

I like to use FK425 after a wash to keep the shine going and to give the car some anti-static properties. I think someone hinted at it before, but get a new spray nozzle for the fk425. I really, really dislike the original one.

As long as you have some quality MF, you should be fine. Hope to see your Vette out on the road.

Hey mchess1, I am in Palm Springs, right next to you.....try and break the vette out on the weekends, hope to see you. Being a new guy trying to figure out all the abbreviations, what is MF? thanks Scott

As far as pics, waiting for my personalized plate then iIwill go to town and post, thanks for all the info

I'm a newbie too and am trying to find out and keep straight all these acronyms (I hate 'em). Anyway, MF is MicroFiber - usually referring to a Micro Fiber cleaning or polishing cloth.
