Do you guys have a good rule of thumb on what dilution ratio to use APC+ for on different items?

How safe is it to use on paint? I'd like to use it on door jambs and on everything under the hood.

Is it safe on painted wheels?

I believe some people were saying ARO can't be stored in a diluted state. Is the same true for APC+? I hope not because I specifically bought 2 of the 32oz APC+ bottles to store the stuff at different ratios so I don't have to mix it every time I want to use it.

If it's safe on pretty much everything, how would you break down the dilution ratios? The back of the container doesn't really specify for each use, nor would I expect it to. I appreciate any feedback you all can provide.

Thank you!
Mark

I think the general rule of thumb is 4:1 for heavy cleaning, 10:1 for lighter cleaning. I believe you can pretty much use it on anything except paint and glass, and I would be careful around clear plastics and uncoated wheels. If you need something for paint, you can try P21S Total Wash, Optimum Power Clean, or DP Cleanse-All.

Thanks, Shane! I guess I was hoping I could use it on the door jambs. Is the reason it's not to be used on paint is because it will remove wax and sealant, or will it damage paint? I was thinking a higher dilution to clean the door jambs and painted surfaces under the hood and trunk that have years of crud on them, then hit them with a sealant or wax and just routinely clean those areas with soap/water.

The wheels are painted, so I'm guessing my thoughts above would extend to the wheels as well. The thought is to do a good cleaning and then seal them up.

I bought this car in May of '09 and am just now in the position to start making it look nice. The paint has been neglected, so this will be the first BIG cleaning, to where I plan to routinely clean everything so APC+ won't be necessary in the future. If I shouldn't use it, I'll have to look into some other products, but I'm on a somewhat limited budget and a dedicated wheel cleaner didn't fit into my 2 orders I've placed with AG.

Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner Plus D103 cleans all these surfaces:
# Engine bay
# Floor mats
# Dash and door panels
# Clear plastic instrument panels
# Tires and wheels
# Fender wells
# Leather
# Vinyl
# Carpet and upholstery
# Molding and trim
# Glass
If it's safe enough for leather (when diluted properly) then it's safe enough for CC paint (when diluted properly). I've used PB APC on my painted rims and it's worked just fine (12:1), I plan on using Megs apc+ the same way. Yes it can be stored diluted.
Ratio's
Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner Plus D103 can be diluted to suit any cleaning challenge. For heavy duty jobs – engines, tires, and fender wells – dilute APC+ 4:1. For medium strength cleaning inside the vehicle, dilute APC+ 10:1. Of course, you can adjust the dilution ratio if needed.
Try 12 or 15 to 1 for paint on a discrete area.

I recently got some APC+ and at 10:1 it did an awesome job on some trouble spots on my door panels. I have yet to use it for anything else.

Thanks, guys! That was a great help! :xyxthumbs:

My experience with APC+ so far is positive.. go with dilution of 10:1 or 12:1 and see how things roll up... Somewhere I read that diluting the APC+ makes it just as good as other regular cleaners.. Follow the rule - when in doubt try the product in hidden area first... : )

APC+ has a ridiculous dilution ratio of 64:1 or something like that on paint. You can OPC straight on paint.

I have used APC+ at 4:1 on several vehicles as a LSP stripper or bug spray in a pinch and it has worked fine. But as usual, test a spot on your vehicle.

I CAN say that I would never use APC+ at full strength or even 1:1 on paint. 4:1 is the highest concentration I would use on paint and even some would disagree with that.

Even though this thread is several months old, I will say that I use APC+ at 4:1 for just about everything. The only time I have ever diluted more was on sensitive interior surfaces.

Do know however that if it ever touches paint, I am waxing behind it.

Would anyone more knowledgeable than I on the matter care to explain why you shouldn't use it at any certain strength on paint? I haven't noticed any adverse effects at 4:1, but I also don't spray the entire vehicle with it (nor OPC Mark :D )

Megs APC+ is safe to use on everything. Paint, plastics, leather...etc. It has the same active ingredients as Optimums Power Clean.

Why does Optimum say you can use power clean straight, while Meguiars recommends against that?

Dont know, I guess meguiars just likes to play it safe because they know not many consumers are detail savy and Optimum line you mostly see enthusiast and pros using. MSDS says they contain the same hazardous chemical make up so why would one be safe and the other not...

Besides, the main thing with all chemicals/cleaners is not letting it dry on the surface because thats when staining can occur.

Same amounts of hazardous products? Are you saying they're essentially the same product?

Not saying they are the same products but they share two of the same surfactants. Only thing is Meguiars contains, SODIUM DODECYLBENZENESULFONATE which is used in cosmetics and Polyoxyethylene nonylphenol ether which is an emulsfier. Optimum contains its "proprietary" surfectant blend.
