I have the porter cable 7424 with the original backing plate. I have the Megs soft buff pads. The new soft buff 2.0 pads look better, but are they? I was thinking of switching.....My question is kind of long, sorry:

1 can I use my current backing plate with the new 2.0 soft buff pads or do I need to get a the new W68 plate?

2 If I get the new one, will it still work with the original soft buff pads I currently have.

3 Is the new backing plate worth upgrading over the standard plates that come with the DA if I don't have to.

Thanks guys, just don't want to make any mistakes when I'm placing my next order...

if they are both hook/loop (velcro) then they should all work as long as same diameter. I dont remember the Megs being flexible however unlike the yellow ones most have already.

Best to call in order or talk with tech for best advice. Matt and Dwayne should be able to confirm immediately.

Well i havent used the original Megs pads, but i just used a Megs 2.0 polishing pad yesterday on a dark green suburban...1 pad did the whole thing...and it was 107 degrees out and it held up fine...and i used it with a LC backing plate (as killerwheels said, hook and loop plates will all work).

Ill tell you this...the self centering is really nice and on a PC having the pad perfectly centered really reduced shaking on speed 6. They say they're machine washable, but personally I just do mine by hand. I did have one come apart on me after just 2 uses or so...the glue came off the back...but AG replaced it (thanks guys) and the replacement one is the one i used yesterday with excellent results.

I'm going to do a write up on the whole job, but heres a couple pictures of what the results were...
