Gonna pick up a DA...

if i were to choose between the PC (G110v2, GG6) or Flex (have both), i would opt for the PC due to it's versatility in utilizing 4" pads and being able to use a carpet attachment as well. not to mention, it's lighter and easier to use even with one hand (applying glazes/lsp's). with new products and pads continuing to evolve, it's making the DA more and more effective. can't wait to see what new/different products will be coming out shortly at SEMA. if you plan on getting Flex, don't get rid of your PC...
You nailed it, Al. :dblthumb2:

Have you ever used the PCXP, or just the GG and G110v2??

Smaller pads my friend, smaller pads. Keep the PC and add the Flex to your tools, you wont regret it.

ah I see. Because with PC, you can get those smaller backing plates right? I just have 5.5" pads right now... I try to hit the smaller areas by hand.

So for the flex it's only a larger size for a backing plate???

I think there is some type of adapter(it's not a backing plate) for use with other pads, but it doesn't seem to be very popular. With the Flex 3401, you can only use the 5.5" backing plate that comes with it. :xyxthumbs:

I see!!! Thanks for the tips. That's good to know! I was going to sell my PC! Good to know that I should just keep it, buy some smaller backing plates and pads, and use it for smaller areas. Major areas of the vehicle will get hit by Flex.

There you go! Do you have the PCXP or the original PC? Just curious...

I have the Griots (wish it was a Flex) and my old PC has a 3.5" backing plate on it all the time for running 4" pads.:buffing:

Why not pick up a rotary instead? Have you ever used one? It can take small pads... I only suggest this because I now have a Flex L3403 to compliment my Flex 3401 and I absolutely love it. Right off the bat, first time, I had NO problem being able to control it and it corrects soo fast! (I videoed it, my first Rotary pass ever in full HD :) ) For me, the intimidation factor was gone after one section. The rotary fills the "small pad void" but also... um, is a rotary.

Mark, you had a bad experience/didn't like the GG, Megs "didn't feel right", why would the PC be so great? IMO, since your a Flex 3401 owner, a Rotary could bring more to the table than a PC. I know there is a place for a PC in anyone's arsenal, I would like to have one for the carpet brush or whatever, but you may as well take a step up the ladder and come hang with the big boy's! :D Im the MAN

J/K it's up to you, just sayin'.

do you have a vid of your rotary pass? I know I read a lot of rotary folks who say people are just "scared" of rotaries... I am one of them :( But perhaps with your vid I might go that route. I still want a 3401 for sure though... then maybe a rotary too.

I hear ya, Dave.

My thinking is, I might sell the FLEX in the near future and buy a rotary. If I bought a rotary, I really wouldn't feel the need for the "hybrid" 3401, and for the amount I could sell the FLEX, I could easily buy a rotary. :dblthumb2:

haven't used the new PCXP or G110v2 (i have a feeling it's going to be upgraded, could be wrong though), but have used the GG6, G100 and G110...

I have Flex too but I still want my UDM 1.0 (amazingly it still works) with a 4-in pad for smaller places.

Sure, here you go. :)

 Get rid of the 3401? You can't do that again! 3401 and Rotary is a winning combo!

I'll keep all three! :dblthumb2:

How do you like the Flex 3403? Do you use 6.5" pads for the most part? The pad was steaming!

Yeah! That's what I'm talking about. :D

It is awesome! Being that the L3403 has the same body and control placement it's just like the 3401. But being a Rotary, correction is MUCH faster. Currently all my pads are 6.5", but I got the CCS Spot Buffs 4 Inch Foam Pad Kit Free Bonus! on the way (which is sweet because it includes DA and Drill adapters for Rotary BP's).

I also have come to learn first hand the truth in what the experts say about certain polish's working better via Rotary. I was very UNDERwhelmed by 3M Machine Polish when used with the DA action of the 3401 (thinking the 3401 is fast/strong enough to do what a Rotary can... wrong) knowing it is formulated for use with Rotary Polishers I thought I'd give it a shot for the first time I ever touch a Rotary to paint. As you could see in the video the paint is totally smashed and 3M Machine Polish removed the majority of defects with relative ease. I was pretty stoked to say the least. Of course it was easy to control on a flat horizontal surface, side panels take some real skill...

Heat builds up very fast with the Rotary, with the 3401 when I start with a fresh pad I spritz it with Pinnacle Pad Lube and work it into the pad by running it against my bare hand. With the Rotary your "fight or flight" reflexes kick in almost instantly and pull your hand away cause it's HOT! I can see the technique I learned From John "detailjohn", which is using compressed air to clean your pads on the fly, would be of great benefit for Rotary work because it also cools your pad significantly.

Very interesting info, Dave. :props:

Would I be correct in saying that 3M and Menzerna polishes benefit much more from a rotary? It seems the non-diminishing abrasives might be more geared for a DA? Do you plan on finishing with a rotary?

Well, I've only used 3 polishes on the Rotary, 3M machine Polish, 3M Ultrafine and Poorboy's Syn-1, but soon I'll try a few of my Menz polishes and report back, but they sure work great on the 3401... Not sure what to say about DAT vs SMAT and which is for what polisher type, because of things like 3M Machine polish being non-dininishing and Megs 205 also non-diminishing, each is geared towards opposing machines... Mike, :help: :)

I did some work with a friend on his black Acura, removing left over sanding marks on the hood. We did poorboy's Syn 1 followed by 3M Ultrafine, both on the Rotary. Ultrafine on a Flat Blue LC Pad finished BEAUTIFULLY! But I plan to finish with the 3401, I'll have to see how Pinnacle XMT 360 likes the Rotary before I can really say. I just don't want ANY holograms... EVER!

So 3M machine polish is also non-diminishing huh! I was not aware of that. Interesting it still works better with a rotary.

What speed did you use for SYN 1 and Ultrafine? You should try a wool pad, they're supposed to be very easy to maneuver.
