Deep Gloss = hazy

I needed to get a second coat of WGDGPS on my Ram 2500, so while I was at it I thought I'd try to replicate the cold weather theory mentioned in this thread. Monday after work I washed it. Yesterday after work I gave it a quick wipe down with DP WW (didn't want to add any protection or jeopardize sealant results. Paint is polished (previously) to almost perfection and truck is wearing one coat of WGDGPS). I then applied WGDGPS @5:00pm, the outside temperature was 58F. I removed the WGDSPS @ 6:00pm, the outside temperature was 54F. Here is a temp reading throughout the night from our local weather station: (It's only 9:00 am here and no real sunlight out yet, but so far paint looks great and no signs of hazing. I'll go out and check it again when there is direct sun and post some pictures with an update of my findings).

Time... Temp... Dewpoint... RelativeHumidity

18:00... 54°F ... 19°F ....... 37%

19:00... 45°F... 23°F ........ 42%

20:00... 43°F... 25°F......... 49%

Burr.... I like living in Southern California. :)

I only got to half the car before I turned in for the day.

It's now been a couple of days since you applied the sealant. Did the haze go away? Do you have any pictures?

You mentioned that you only got to 1/2 the car? I'm assuming only the 1/2 with the sealant is hazed. Right? Also, what polish did you use to remove the swirls? Did you spray down the paint with any detailer or cleaner after you polished?

The Dawn wash and/or IPA wipedown should remove the old sealant. If only 1/2 of the car has the haze, it should be pretty easy to see that the haze is removed with the Dawn car wash and/or the IPA wipedown.

As Corey recommended, a prewax paint cleaner will remove the old sealant, clean the paint surface and should give you the best paint surface to reapply the sealant. It would eliminate any residual sealant or contamination that hazed the paint in the first place from the equation, if the issue is not temperature related.

When I used a prewax cleaner, it only took me about an hour by hand to apply, haze and wipe off my 5-series BMWs. You should be able to have your car bright, shiny and sealed within a few hours, leaving you with most of a three day weekend to enjoy.

UPDATE: Sorry it took me so long to get back to this, but had to work late. Ok I checked truck in sunlight, shade, and different lighting several times today and absolutely no hazing. Paint looks clear, and shiny...
Hope this helps...

I applied WGDGPS to my bimmer last December when it was 50ish during the day, raining cats and dogs, and temps dropped into the 30's. I've used DGPS in hot and dry weather without issues too. I'm not convinced that temp was the issue, but Mike has a lot more experience in one of his pinkies than I will ever hope to have in my lifetime.

My guess is the sealant didn't like the polish residual, spray detailer or something like it. A quick paint cleaning to remove the contaminated sealant and a fresh sealant application should bring a smile back to "kids-gone" face.

Sorry Picture taking isn't my thing only have camera on cell phone not the best views as far as I can see. UPDATE the paint is looking a whole lot better now that it has had time to sit. Lesson 2 let this product sit before wipe off. They really should update the directions on the bottle if it wasn't for you guys I be in full tears. Your all life savers.

Used Pinnacle light swill polish but the thing I didn't do was use the detailers cleaner afterwards - Lesson 1 learned

Lesson 3: strip this stuff off . Didn't re-wash it as of yet was waiting to see how to remove it before I tackled that step

I really mean that you guys are ALL LIFE SAVERS to us newbies. THANK You for your support. Kids_gone
