Hi, im new to this forum and I am thankful for the ability to post some things that have helped me grow my company and share them with you guys. I truly know that in order to grow your business and company you need as many fingerprints on the internet as possiable(ways and locations to find your company). I will post all the places I have mine and tell you that NOT one of them cost me ANY money to place. hope this helps.....
1) google.com
2) yahoo.com
3) bing.com
4) yellowpages.com
5) atlanta.com
6) simon.com
7) local.com
8) kudzu.com
9) citysearch.com
10) hotfrog.com
11) manta.com
12) merchantcircle.com
13) eversave.com
14 ) halfoffdepot.com
15) 8coupons.com
16) 3thirty6publications.com
17) myspace.com
18) facebook.com
19) yellowbot.com if anyone needs help and ways to establish a easy way for customers to find you I would be more than willing to help. FACT 75% of the u.s. housholds use an internet search to find a service they need.

Nice to see how many free sites there are.

Sharing how many referrals you have got from each would be very helpful.
Not too many people have time to keep up almost 2 dozen listings, and outdated 'link rot' won't help a business grow.

the best ones by far is google, bing, yahoo, city search. I have over 9 google local ads and just 1 of them has on a slow month 2,018 people will see my ad and 80-100 click on it. a good month i had 4,247 and 478 clicked on it. I will say i have gotten as many as 60-80 phone calls in 1 day and a cold rainy day like today , I have had 11 calls. hope that helps.

Google local ads is a free service? Agree with Mike...hope you'll tell us more including what you said in the ads, and how many of the calls turn into actual paying jobs over the next month or so.

I will keep posting all the ways i have made my company money. First a little background, I was a police oficer in metro Atlanta for 7 years and i detailed on my off day for extra money , after doing this for six month i left (2003) and never looked back. I have owned 5 locations(still have 2) and sold all the others( i grow the shop then 2 or 3 years later sell and do very well.) I spend 2 hours everyday keeping track of all my internet ads and doing this I showed IRS $168k gross and $68k net(2009). I truly hope that I can offer any helpfull insights on making yours grow. Thanx for reading

On getting a google ad go to google and type in the search google places, then you can click on the local business section(places.google.com/business) follow the step by step sections. the key to getting your ad where people see it is the ad words or categorys. you only need to use 1 of googles categorys and the other 5 can be the most searched keywords for your business. example more people type in google search (window tinting atlanta) vs (window tint atlanta) by about 30k searches monthly.

Thank you very much for the wonderful insight! This is great information that so many of us can build from. Thank you for sharing! Welcome to AG!

Dunwoody, this is a great post. I am also a believer in the internet advertising.
About 3 weeks ago I finally got my website up and running ( built it myself ) and now I
am trying to figure out how to get my site to come up towards the top of the first
page on searches. I have registered with google for the ad words but im not sure if im
doing it correctly because I am not very computer savy, I would also like to register
with more of the ones you have suggested. I was wondering if you would be
able to give me some pointers or any help doing this as you seem to have the internet
down. Any help would be much appreciated

If I do all this internet advrtising and get super busy, then I won't have time to goof off on the internet :bolt:

I like the design of your new site. A few suggestions to consider.
Double check the spelling on the home page. Several misspelled words or the use of the wrong word. (weather should be whether).
The gallery was not easy to figure out how to navigate through the pics.
The small red print on black is an eye killer (services page). Choosing a better color will help make the page more appeasing...the easier it is on the eyes, the longer a person will stay on the page to read. Letter size could be a bit bigger...
Overall....cool site!

Thank you for the comments and input, I will be making a few edits. As i said before I am not very computer savy but after getting prices to design my website ( $500-$1,000 ) I thought I would try it myself. I did not want it to look home built and cheesy though, I wanted it to look professional and I spent about 3 months a few hours here and there because there is so much stuff you can do. So I finally got to the point I just wanted to get it up and running so people can at least see some work and contact information since I do have the site on my business cards. Now I can go in and edit at anytime.

As for the gallery I will look into a different format, the way it is now is supposed to be a slideshow type with the pics flipping from front to back like if you were holding a stack of pictures and going through them. Thanks again :xyxthumbs:

when i clicked on the photo, it did not rotate to the next photo. it opened up the pic full size. i did figure out if i clicked on the top right edge, it would go to the next image. some peeps wont take time to figure that out.
btw, I viewed the site using Firefox v3.6.4 -- it is not a bad idea to view your site from the most common browsers used today.
You might want to consider this to test: Website Overview for http://www.shownshinedetailing.com/ It looks like you could benefit with a html/flash version option.
If you are interested in any help, feel free to PM me.

Hey nick looks good for no proagramming exp. but when it comes to running ads , I think you can never have too many, I get phone calls from almost everyone of the places my ads are. When you get time call me and I will walk you through it 404-519-1244. mark

Thanks for the offer Mark, I really appreciate it. I will be in touch soon. Happy holidays

I'm also a police officer who details on the side. My current fear is that I will grow too fast. It must have been scary to quit ??? I have 18 years in and make a really good salary. I plan to retire in 7 to 12 years. When I do retire I hope to have enough customers to detail full time. I love detailing but I'm scared to take the big step.

I agree with Dunwoody. I am all those website plus Yelp.com. Posting on all those website help your seo (search engine optimize). When ppl enter car wash in Houston, my would come up on top because of that. They are all free. I pay a lil extra on some of those site. I get maybe 50 new customer a month from all those posting.

I can't agree more. I'm always trying to get my business on every site possible. It's definitely helped me. I get more and more customers saying they found me on the internet.

But, the only thing I'd say different....is that even more important than just listing your business, is having reviews for your business on various sites. My reviews are my main staple. People LOVE to know that others have enjoyed your services!

Encourage your customers to go online and leave a review. Make it easy for them with a link on your homepage for a review. You may be surprised how many actually utilize it. :dblthumb2:

Like the original post says, having as many fingerprints out there as possible will create more exposure for your business.

When you receive calls (or emails if that's an option you set up) ask them where they saw you or heard about you. The ones that generate the most activity are the ones you should focus on. These may vary from one location to another so you'll have to determine which ones will work best for where you do business.
