Well, I finally go around to doing the exterior of the 1998 Accord. In all honesty, the paint was not as bad as I would have expected. With that in mind, I changed my plan of attack. Just a background. This car has not even been washed in over 2 years. Lived half its life in Wisconsin, and the other half in Tampa.

Products used:
Adam's Car Shampoo
Meguiars APC 10:1
Megs Clay Bar lubed with Eagle One QD (I go cheap here!)
Megs M105
Megs Ultimate Compound
Megs #21 Mirror Glaze Synthetic Sealant
Adam's Buttery Wax
Megs Tire Shine

Equipment:
2 Buckets w/ grit guards
Sheepskin mitt
detail brushes
DI MF's
DI WW MF
DI ReTHICKulous MF
Homelite electric blower
PC7424 with yellow, orange, white and red pads.

First up was a nice bath using the Adam's Shampoo. As I washed the car it almost felt as if I was washing with a brillo pad. The paint was that rough. After drying I moved on to the clay bar. You could hear the clay bar being drug across the surface at first. The amount of contaminants in the paint was unbelievable.

As I said, when I first examined the car after claying, the paint did not appear to have to many swirl marks. I guess the fact it was never washed helped! :lol However, the paint did have quite a few scuff marks from running in to various objects. With that in mind I wanted to try out the Megs Ultimate Compound. I have read a lot of good things about it being a good one step. So I gave it a try on a orange pad. I must say that I was happy with the results. It does not cut like M105, but it has a great working time and finishes nicely without dusting. The scuff marks were to much for the UC to handle, so I had to get out the M105 and a yellow pad. After correcting those areas, I moved back to the UC to finish up.

Once that was over I applied the Megs 21 using a white pad. Removing it with a MF and then moving to a red pad and the Adams buttery wax. I removed the LSP with the reTHICKulous MF. This thing is a monster. I want a bathrobe made from the same material!

Anyway, here are the pics. The car turned out great IMO. Someone tried to touch up some spots on the paint from some bumps and bangs, but used the wrong color. One day I will fix those. The pics kinda suck. Sorry. All of the before pics were taken after the clay bar.

Some of the pics you have to look hard at to see the serious scuffing. Sorry for the poor quality. I was in a hurry with the pics.

Great job! It looks really good for being 12 years old!

Lookin' good! :dblthumb2:

Hard to tell because of the lighting, but what color is that car? Light tan or silver?

good work! I've yet to try out the Meg UC, I always go for the Megs 105. I may have to pic some up to test it out....way to many product out there I want to test out. I'm going to go broke!

Thanks everyone!

The car Regent Silver Metallic. Looks like a champagne color almost in person. Sorry about the lighting. I am actually a decent photographer. Hard to believe I know.

I feel your pain. I start getting on these forums and the sales sites and putting all this stuff i a shopping cart and then go "Hey dumbie, you need to pace yourself!" I liked the way to UC worked. Like I said, it had a great working time, no dust, and finished nice. However, it just doesn't cut like M105. I really did not expect it to though.

Great work, car looks amazing!

I have used Ultimate Compound myself with a PC and honestly I think it's probably the best Meguiar's polish right now. It's easy to work with and gives great results as a 1 step product. I use M105 with the rotary when I need to remove wetsanding scratches, however Ultimate Compound is much easier to work with.

Cool. My mom and dad have two Accords in that same body style - one is silver and one is beige/champagne.

You finished up with UC?

BTW those little dots everywhere is Artillery Fungus

Yes. I was trying to see how the UC worked as a one step polish. Even the spots I hit with the M105 got finished with the UC.

Artillery Fungus? I have to google that. What do you use to get rid of it?

Nice turnaround!

I personally prefer a grungy, neglected car for the starker before & after contrasts. I can afford to pick and choose my projects since I don't have to detail for a living. Unfortunately, those cars that really get me salivating rarely have an owner that'll pay for that kind of work.

You realize you've created more future work for yourself because you'll cringe everytime you see the car filthy. :D Been there, done that.

UC is a little harsh for a 1 step, if the car was darker you would have noticed it more.

Lot and lots of elbow grease is what it takes to remove it :D I had it all over part of my house, had on hell of a time removing it... If I remember correctly it comes from mulch.

Good to know. I will def keep that in mind. I had read that a lot of folks were using it as a one step, so I figured I would try it.

That stuff was a PITA to remove! Yes, according to google, it does come from mulch. She has a rather large mulch bed next to her driveway. Dang.

Thanks again for the tip. Now I kinda want to go out and IPA the car again and run a M205 over it! LOL. Yeah, no. Maybe next time.

I suffered the same on my house windows year after year. It isn't noticeable on the rest of the house since the wood siding is dark brown. On the windows I ended up using a plastic razor blade before washing.

Once I changed mulch suppliers the problem ceased. I've had enough of buying ground up bark and spreading 7 or 8 yards every year. I'm biting the bullet and having river rock put on the raised beds this year... no more mulch, no more fungus. Im the MAN

This all depends on the paint and how well it reacts to the particular polish being used. You can't say that a specific polish will not leave the paint LSP ready as a general statement since all paints are different. It will also depend on the polishing pad used as well.
