This is my friends Accord that I have been helping him work on for a while now. I have been teaching him how to use a polisher. I started him out on the Megs DA v1. He was getting the hang of it but needed some work. After several times practicing and working with him he began to get the hang of it. Is he ready for a full correction on a Ferrari, no but he is doing well enough to polish out the large flat panels on his car.

I then tried to teach him how to use a rotary, he was doing ok at it he just needs practice. He hasn’t developed the eye and the touch yet. You can see some of his rotary work in the pics below.

Every panel was attacked differently because some sections of the car had already been tackled months prior as this was a work in progress kind of thing. I am only highlighting the roof and hood because that is what I spend my time on while he spent time clearing up wash induced swirls on the sides of the car.

Process: (every panel was different)
Roof:
-Rotary, 3m BP, TufBuf wool, 105
-Rotary, 3m BP, Orange, menz 203
-Megs DA, Gray, 205

Hood:
-Rotary, 3m BP, Orange, Menz 203
-Megs DA, Gray, 205

-Everything was given a coat of Power Lock at the end

Here is me taping off the car. Some hate doing it but I personally enjoy prepping the car for work.

If you look right above the door you can see left over sanding marks addressed later on.

A page out of Mike’s book. These are the blue towels AG sold a while ago, they can’t soak up water for anything but they excel in catching polish splatter

Now here is my buddy’s handywork with a rotary. He was house sitting while my family was on vacation and he asked if he could work on his car while I was gone. I said sure knock yourself out. Here is the result. It looks a lot worse that it really was so I cant beat him up too bad over it.

Here you can see that there is still some water etching but we didn’t feel the need to chase them any further.

That is what I worked on Saturday. My buddy now has a corrected car. He is not allowed to wash it until I really teach him how to use the 2bm.

All questions, comments, and criticisms are welcome.

Jon

Hey Jon,
That is a great job on that Honda. It is just like you to help out your buddy like this. You really are a kind soul, and you will be paid back 100 times over in other ways. You should be proud of yourself!!
Keep up the good work buddy!!!:dblthumb2:

Nice save Jon :props:

Those designs your friend made with the rotary are unique :wow:

Wow. For you to take the time to actually teach him over such a long period speaks volumes to the type of friend you are! Wish we all could've had someone like that when we first started! Kudos, and great work.

Thanks Flash! I guess you could think of them more as artistic, I mean after I saw them I felt like I was at the beach with all those waves

Thank you! He is a good friend of mine and I enjoyed teaching him and will continue to teach him as time goes on. I have alread asked him to help me out with a few details where I was swamped. He has come a long way since we first started.

Great job correcting the paint surface on this Honda. Keep up the great work.

Great job on the Accord. I'm going help a friend of mine with his black accord in the springs. The 2nd to the last pic is an awesome shot.

great job. have the same car with same color. good and bad that honda has soft clear, easy to scratch even with 2bm, i put CQuartz on couple panels to see if its gona do anything
is he on accord forums taht you know of?

Looks really good!

It's pretty nice that you are going to teach him how to maintain the finish. All odds are against him, black Honda paint..... That will take some soft hands.

I wish I could teach someone, I would love to but everyone I know thinks I am crazy. Well all except my grandpa, he loves cleaning his truck. Every now and again I will order stuff and have it shipped to him to use. He already knows how to use it but still loves to try it out. He was amazed with UC but still is a diehard NuFinish guy lol!

Great job Jon!!
Did you correct it with a rotary or DA/Flex?

Thank you, you will notice that it will correct really easily but it will also mar easily too. It is a tricky paint esp in black. I love that LED light, free from harbor freight.

Thank you. Ya that car is probably a full time job for you :buffing: I can see how even the 2bm isnt going to save him 100%. I dont think he is on any forums yet. I keep telling him he needs to join here.

Thanks! Any time you want to talk car care and want to join in on a detail my garage is always open. It might be a bit of a drive for you though.

Great job Jon!!
Did you correct it with a rotary or DA/Flex?

Thank you Jimmy!
I used the rotary and then finished up with my Megs DA. My buddy was using the flex on the side panels. They just needed to be cleared up with a light polish as we had already corrected them a while ago.

I love the flex but enjoy pulling out the megs every now and then just for fun and for tight places w/ 4" pads.

Great job, I hope to achieve the same results with my wife's car (05 black Accord.) I've never used a Porter Cable, or anything like it before, so I'm going to have to find some help when the time comes... my friends are going to hate me.
