This is my friends Accord that I have been helping him work on for a while now. I have been teaching him how to use a polisher. I started him out on the Megs DA v1. He was getting the hang of it but needed some work. After several times practicing and working with him he began to get the hang of it. Is he ready for a full correction on a Ferrari, no but he is doing well enough to polish out the large flat panels on his car.
I then tried to teach him how to use a rotary, he was doing ok at it he just needs practice. He hasn’t developed the eye and the touch yet. You can see some of his rotary work in the pics below.
Every panel was attacked differently because some sections of the car had already been tackled months prior as this was a work in progress kind of thing. I am only highlighting the roof and hood because that is what I spend my time on while he spent time clearing up wash induced swirls on the sides of the car.
Process: (every panel was different)
Roof:
-Rotary, 3m BP, TufBuf wool, 105
-Rotary, 3m BP, Orange, menz 203
-Megs DA, Gray, 205
Hood:
-Rotary, 3m BP, Orange, Menz 203
-Megs DA, Gray, 205
-Everything was given a coat of Power Lock at the end
Here is me taping off the car. Some hate doing it but I personally enjoy prepping the car for work.
If you look right above the door you can see left over sanding marks addressed later on.
A page out of Mike’s book. These are the blue towels AG sold a while ago, they can’t soak up water for anything but they excel in catching polish splatter
Now here is my buddy’s handywork with a rotary. He was house sitting while my family was on vacation and he asked if he could work on his car while I was gone. I said sure knock yourself out. Here is the result. It looks a lot worse that it really was so I cant beat him up too bad over it.
Roof:
Here is some left over sanding marks from where some bodywork was done prior to him getting the car.
Sand Marks Corrected: Same process as roof
Roof Corrected:
Here you can see that there is still some water etching but we didn’t feel the need to chase them any further.
Hood:
50/50
That is what I worked on Saturday. My buddy now has a corrected car. He is not allowed to wash it until I really teach him how to use the 2bm.
All questions, comments, and criticisms are welcome.
