Hi all,
Chris from up in Canada, I am just curious as to what percentage of Interior work vs, Exterior work you all do....
As you might have guessed I'm another newbie, so pls forgive what might be a silly question, but after a fair bit of thought, and trying to see what would be my "Standard sort of Customer up here" I am interested to see from some "real world" demand what you guys get?(interior vs exterior ) the way I see it, is people will only pay for a produce/ service they "know for sure" they cannot do themselves...
All I can say is most car interiors that I see are HORRIBLE! LOL....and sadly I'm thinkin most really don't care that much about the exterior, other than wash it every month or 2.....

anyway...cheers!

A silly question is the one that is unasked! As I do not do this full time right now, most of my customers are more worried about their interior than exterior. As long as the exterior is clean as in washed and waxed they are happy, but the inside they want to be prestine! So I do the best I can to provide that to them!
Hope this helps you some, and good luck !

Hey thanks very much Tim! Thats interesting as it's kinda what I though......cheers!

i hate doing interior cleaning, but it is where i spend alot of time(weird i know). i get in there with brushes and APC scrubbing all the hard to get areas, cleaning the vinyl and plastics making them look new, cleaning the steering wheel, vacuuming between the seats and center console.

keep in mind the driver spends all their time in the driver's seat, so i believe they always appriciate an A+ interior cleaning, spoken or not.

i have never had a customer tell me not to worry about the inside. in fact i had one guy have me only clean the inside of his Infiniti.

hope this helps...kinda started to ramble =)

Hello and :welcome: Chris

99% of our work is both interior & exterior
.5% interior only
.5% exterior only

Like mentioned above the "real world" customers just want a clean exterior with wax every now and then but would like for the interiors to be at there best. And willing to pay for this service mainly due to the same reason most pro detailers hate doing interiors, doing interior work sucks. But can make a huge difference in the "Wow" factor, so do it right and you will have long term clients :)

:iagree:

Wow, thanks everyone! really, very interesting insight, into what could be percieved as "real world market Demand".......thanks again all!

Yep I agree with everyone so far. You will do mainly interiors. I have never gotten a "Dont touch the interior I just want the exterior"

I also hate doing certain interiors. Some, like certain Lexus, Infiniti, and the like, are fun to do because they look great when you are finished and clean up really well. Other interiors I would almost rather get my money by taking shots to the nads

 Not a fan of interiors either Jon but I quess thats where I Shine......(Pun Intended) But in the meantime i'll wear a cup!

I personally take as much pride in my interiors, as my exteriors. I actually find that people are more wowed by top notch interior work, than exterior. I've found that most people just don't have the eye for exteriors. You could go and do all this work to it, and the customer is just gonna say it looks good.

But, when you really do a job on an interior...it's plainly obvious.

That being said. I don't think I get more interior work, than exterior. I think they're pretty close to dead even. Most my customers get one of the in and out packages. It's more rare someone just gets interior, or exterior alone.

P.S. speaking of taking pride in my interior work. I did a crappy minivan today. I took quite a few photos. I will be posting that in a little bit. Keep an eye out! :dblthumb2:

99 percent of my jobs are full details. I do however have one couple who have me only do their exteriors. They already keep their interiors pristine .

Oh wait I just remembered one more customer who only wants his exterior done on a regular basis.

Good question....To think of it, most clients that want to sell their vehicles just want their interior cleaned. I then have to convince them to get their exterior done.

I actually love doing interiors with my mccullough steamer. I have this amazing feeling of satisfaction when I get grime out of every nook and cranny. Call me crazy but I would on an interior for 3 hours and still not be satisfied even though the customer still loves it.

It's awesome how most on here agree that doing interiors is time consuming and the least liked job lol!!!! I totally agree!! I can tell you in the automotive industry I get mostly full interiors with an exterior wipedown. RV Industry I get 99% exteriors and very few interiors ( I think because that is their home and don't want people in it lol). Aircraft - 99% exteriors. Buses - 50/50. I dislike interiors so much that sometimes I get my betterhalf out there for free to do them for me - but she is pregnant now and I loose my free interior help . Hope this helps!!!
