I, for one, am sorry you're not happy with it.
I've had good luck applying it, letting it penetrate for a few minutes, then applying a second coat.
Use a clean, dry towel/rag to buff away the excess. That evens the finish and can help prevent streaking if it gets wet soon.
BTW, it has cleaners in it. It's not just a wipe on product. Apply it with an old wash cloth and rub the surface. The cleaners in it will break the oxidation loose, helping to restore the original look. Then, that second coat will ensure good coverage and an even finish.
