Major bummer.....

Sounds about right. Somewhere I was reading that they expect these ZL1s to start out around $47,000. Who knows, I may just buy a 2SS automatic and throw a supercharger in it if that can be done.

I want one! Already contacted my local dealer. With all the options they are putting on it (MRC as an example) this car will be $50-60K easy. I keep hinting to my wife that I want to get it as an investment. Not flying yet :( I have never driven a stick like most of you. My brother seen it up close in Chicago this weekend, took some pics for me and it really looks like any other camaro except for all the badging, hood, and wheels. Guess thats how they wanted it, kinda like the original ZL1.

I may go the SS route and supercharge (edelbrock). Found a nice 2010 with 2800 miles for like $30K recently.

Do NOT be scared off by not knowing how to drive manual. I had no clue when I bought a z28 back in 1996. My dad drove it home from the dealership. I messed around for a few minutes when I got home, then drove to my cousins house. It's not hard to learn, and I would never buy a big american V8 in automatic.

Yeah, I'm going to have to learn how to drive a stick first and see if I like it. If I don't like (and I suspect that I won't), I'll just get rid of my RS Camaro for a 2SS instead of the ZL1. That is of course unless they decide to make this new ZL1 with an automatic tranny.

The new ZL1 is sick! I went out and bought a lotto ticket after seeing it on Autoblog! :D

As far as driving a stick, I learned how to do that when I was 14. ;) We had a really long driveway at our house and I would practice taking off in reverse and 1st. When my parents were out I would often take the cars out for a spin too....though I don't condone doing this. :D

I even took my drivers test in a manual. :props:

If you cannot drive a stick, you cannot drive. ( except if you are phyisically unable to )

Why won't you "like" it? In my opinion you are a better driver while driving stick since it takes more concentration. Less likely to be texting or whatever, and more likely to be keeping your eyes on the road and mind in what you are doing. I would love if they didn't even offer cars in automatic anymore.

...(3 speed on the column) ... I stalled the engine maybe 3 times and twice had to jump out in traffic to unjam the rods going from the steering column to the transmission. I'll never forget that day or how to drive a stick.

Wow, sounds almost like my experience...Mercury Comet, three in the tree, light blue color.

GEWB

I drive like an old person.........I like to keep both hands on the wheel at all times.

Sorry, that was funny. How old are you?

34. I knew that my not wanting to learn how to drive a stick would be met with criticism on a car site. I'm going to have to find a driving school that can teach me how to drive a stick. I only know of a few people that drive standards and I don't want to ask them to teach me. Some live to far, some I just won't give the satisfaction of telling me "I told you so", and some I just don't want to owe any favors.

Don't knock it till you try it! I will only drive stick, especially when dealing with a lot of horsepower.

The day will never come when they only make stick.

The rise in auto accidents would be staggering.

This maybe true, and how do they get auto trans to get better milage than stick?

Well, it looks like what I thought was going to be the Z28 is not to be. Chevy's going to release a new ZL1 Camaro instead. Now of course that's not my problem. From what I'm seeing it looks like they're only going to release it with a manual transmission. I'm sure you'll all laugh at me when I say that I don't know how to drive a standard. Looks like I'm going to have to learn from someone. Anyhow, google 2012 ZL1 Camaro and you'll see the car. It's one awesome looking car.

This might be some of the best news i've read all day. Finally Chevy is making a solid decision and only offering this in a manual transmission. That's the way sports cars SHOULD be. Or any car for that matter. I will never drive an automatic again.

I actually think if everyone drove a stick their would be LESS accidents. Considering everyone would be paying attention to driving instead of doing whatever else everyone always does while driving.

Ask them to teach you. Basically all you need to know is how to get into first gear. Should take you roughly 5 minutes to figure it out. The rest of the gears are beyond easy. I taught my girlfriend last summer and she got into first gear her first try. Don't feel embarrassed that you can't drive a stick yet. Once you do drive a stick and realize how much more control you have of the car you might not wanna go back! :dblthumb2:
