What is this on the paint?

Yeah if it doesn't turn out the way you like it. Go EXTREME and have fun at it. Learn your limits so you won't do it on someone else car.

It's a test panel anyways! Have at it!

I would just take some 2000 grit, wet sand, compound, polish.

Worst thing that can happen...is that you burn the paint, or break through the clear. But, it would be a learning experience regardless.

Yes sir, I also got a friend who can repaint it for me to keep working with it in case the paint burned bad

keep watching it gets funny

I wouldn't repaint the hood. You still got about 95% of the hood left to mess around with. And if the hood is all messed up, its cheaper and less time consuming to just buy another hood for 35 bucks. :)

That was a fun game we played!lol Dodge Red Hood? But it's blue? Did you mean Ram?

Yep unless they are some super evil detailers that were caught on tape laughing at destroying someone's car?!?!?!

That was clearly on purpose...I mean come on, ha. When the guy behind the one buffing was pushing harder down on the buffer...it became awfully clear, ha.

This is one of those threads I read through and can't help but think "people really scare me..."

I wouldn't normally be so gun ho about experimenting. But this is just a test panel! It would be good for him to ruin it. Then he'll know his boundaries.

I would purposely ruin it so you know whats your limit when wet sanding.

Just have to realize that every car's paint is different. So what it takes to go through this hood may not be the same on a BMW or a Honda Civic.

:iagree:

I'm surprised how many people said it looks like bird crap etching or clear coat failure/crows feet...

That is absolutely pigtails from machine sanding. It was probably a pneumatic single-action sander (it just vibrates in little circles, no rotation) that was used to remove orange peel. Good thing it's a test panel and you can practice sanding it out without much fear. I bet you can get them out without too much trouble. Spot sand by hand, compound and polish. Looking forward to seeing your results!

My thoughts exactly. As soon as I saw the pic, I knew it was pigtails. My front bumper has them all over, good thing I'm changing bumpers and painting mine soon :).
