Lexus IS250: MF D300 Paint correction, interior, and Opti-Coat protection.


This car belongs to a great client/friend of mine. The vehicle was in for an early spring detail, Opti-Coat protection, and also to see if I could fix a little mishap where the garage door opening ran into the side of the car.

Paint correction Process:
-D300 MF compound via PCXP 5" MF pads
-GTechniq P2 via rotary and LC cyan foam pad
-Wet sanding was done with 6" disks 1500/3000

Paint and exterior Protection:
-Optimum Opti-Coat (Applied to all paint, glass, trim, and wheels)


Interior Process:
-Carpets/mats cleaned with Folex and the LGM. Some areas pre-treated with 303 fabric cleaner
-Vinyl and dash cleaned with OPC and/or Einszitt Cockpit Premium
-Leather cleaned with OCP and Leather Masters

Note: Several of the interior panels had deep scuffs on them. After discussing with the owner we decided against trying diminish their appearance with a dressing, as we both prefer the natural look and feel.

Man that red is really popping now! Great clean up. After looking at those exterior before shots, I am so thankful I dont experience any "real" winters, or have to detail any cars that face "real" winters. As always with your work, awesome job.

I've been looking at your work for awhile and I'm amazed at what you can do, you should be proud.
I have a question about the Lexus. It appears that the driver scraped the wall of his garage and that was sheet rock on the door handle. The reason I ask is I am doing a black Pontiac this weekend that did the very same thing. I've been searching to see how to get sheet rock off a car door handle. One of the suggestions was to spray white vinegar on it, apparently it'll dissolve sheet rock. What did you use?

It was actually paint, primer, and wood that rubbed off the garage door opening.

If it's factory or cured paint you should be fine taking lacquer thinner to it, which usually removes the paint transfer in seconds. Test the paint in an inconspicous area first though.

Close up pics of the handle after the lacquer thinner....the rest had to be picked off. :D

nice work! ive found metallic red colors to be difficult to photograph as well!

white & silver take the cake but red metallic is def the third worst color to capture your work on the camera!

nice work under the halogens!

Sometimes these cars initially appear that regardless of how much effort and time is spent it'll never be enough. It was nice to see that slowly but surely the transformation became a reality and the end result is spectacular.

A candy apple red is one of my all time favorites to create a flawless wet look once I'm finished..

Is the tape you are using on the clear bra vinel tape? is that 1/8''?

I have not had luck finding painters tape locally less than 1/4''

Yes, that is the 1/4" 3M "Fineline" tape, but I do have 1/8" as well. You usually have to go to auto body supply stores to get it and it's pretty expensive. :dblthumb2:

Great job on the car. I love the leather too. Much softer than the leather in the Acura I used to have.:xyxthumbs:

I found the clear to be a joy to work on. D300 corrected the swirls/marring very easily but the deep RIDS required a second or third pass, so no, after my test spot I could have gone more aggressive if anything. ;)

Nice job - looks great. I'll bet those WeatherTech liners made mat clean up a lot easier.

I completely agree. Especially in the areas that have to deal with snow, salt, sand etc. Can't wait to see some of the mat's I'm going to end up having to clean this spring! I actually have one customer who flips his regular mats over so the rubber is facing up in the winter to try to limit the damage to them. Actually works pretty good. Gets some stains but not nearly as bad as usual.
