what's everyone shaving with these days?

Gillette Fusion for me. My face is super sensitive as well.

I find that fresh blades is the key (for my face), and use 1 disposable every few days.

In all honesty I haven't seen a doubled edge safety razor since the 1960's. I didn't know they still existed! And here I thought my Gillette Mach III was an oldie......when I can find the refills that is.

Always scares me when I first see a thread like this posted, at first glance I thought it said What are you shaving these days!!! I must need some rest!
My grandparents owned a Barber and Beauty Salon so I grew up watching the real way to shave!

Nice and it ain't cheap lol

the safety razor itself only cost me around $35 when i bought it (there around $39 now). it's a one time buy and like a DA, it's worth every single penny. the only thing you need to buy after that is the blades which only run a few bucks or less (buy in bulk and it's even cheaper). you figure a gillette fuzion razor and a refill cost around $10-$15 and then you have to buy refills which are around $15 for four, it adds up real quick! the safety razor pays for itself within a very short amount of time...

BigAl3 ...

I would recommend tryind some of the red Persona blades with your Merkur.
From my experience they are superior and you can get them at Lees Razors.

Red Personna Razor Blades

Buddy

yeah, i've read alot of good comments about those and will buy a pack to try out soon as i need to get some more blades. so far, the wilkinson blades have worked the best out of all the ones i've tried (i have sensitive skin) and IMO are the best ones for someone that is getting into it for the first time. my next safety razor will either be a muhle r89 or edwin jagger de89l... :D

I've never used a Safety Razor. I would be scared of tearing my face up.

How about some before and after pictures of your faces after you shave, especially if you've got all those pieces of toilet paper stuck to your face from where you got nicked and to stop the bleeding:xyxthumbs:

like anything else, it takes a little getting use to. you don't need to press down hard and a little more than the weight of the razor itself will do the job. i was afraid at first to use one, but quickly got over that within the first use or two. blades play a big roll as they aren't all created the same. the wilkinson blades work great and i have sensitive skin as well...

here's a video of someone using one for the first time...

After years of using electric razors, I finally ditched them back in October.

I picked up a Merkur 38M, a bunch of different blades, shaving cream and a badger brush. So far, Astra Superiors provide the perfect level of sharpness and flexibility. Personnas are right behind there. Although so many users admire the sharpness of the Feather blades, I find them almost too aggressive.

After a few months of using a safety razor, I don't see myself going back to anything else. It's much cheaper than cartridge setups, more comfortable than my $200 Braun electric and it gives a perfect shave.

i dont shave I use lowest setting on clippers with no guard...hatre the feeling of fresh shave

absolutely agreed, i did my research when i first bought one and like detailing products there are so many safety razors to choose from, along with blades, soaps/creams, shaving brushes, etc. i would like to get a few more...

I shave with Barbasol and whatever's on sale. Single, double triple blades, I really notice no difference. The best shave I ever had though was at the barber shop before my best friends wedding. The barber used on of these:

I have a Homer Simpson beard, 5 minutes after I have I could shave again, but this left my face as smooth as a baby's. :xyxthumbs:

Shave? what the heck is that? Uncle Sam broke me of shaving many many years ago, now I just use Hedge Trimmers once a year!

Thanks to this thread I just spent three hours researching DE razors. Of all things!...

Seeing the picture of a 'real' razor...when I was in the service we had one guy who used one of those weapons...UNDERWAY!!! Rockin and rollin, he's in the head justa shaving away. Nary a nick or blood spot.

Bill

Barbasol and disposable razors. I will only use Barbasol though. The other ones just don't feel the same.
