6.5 pads on PCXP?

I will be having a PCXP come in this week from AG but how well does it hold up with 6.5 pads? i know that it does great with 5.5 pads from all the reviews ive seen here. but i am just wondering how does it do with 6.5 pads? does it stop easily if applied pressure with the 6.5 pads?

Get the 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads. Yes, with the 6.5" pads it does stop spinning with slight pressure.

This is the one i got! http://www.autogeek.net/porter-cable-pad-kit.html i got a orange, white, gray and red pad! Aside from this, what backing plate should i get for my rotary to use both 5.5 and 6.5 inch pads? I really dont want to get a backing plate just for 5.5 pads and another just for 6.5 pads!
 
Stick with the 5.5" pads for the PCXP. It stops rotataing very easily with 6.5" pad. I now only use 6.5" with the Flex 3401 or rotary.

If you want to use 5.5" pads on the rotary, you should get a 5" backing plate and same goes for the 6"bp/6.5" pads. Using a 5" bp with 6.5" will cause too much of an overhang, thus cutting into your pad.
 
I understand you would need a 6.5" counter weight and backing pad.

It won't make a difference. My understanding is that the counter weights will make a difference when using sanding disks and not foam pads.

yea i guess ill just save up a little and get a backing plate for each! im going to be new to the PCXP! ive done all my work on my rotary and dont really expect to do much correction with the PCXP other than applying sealants and waxes and removing minor imperfections! AH! and for wetsanding!!!!! i do alot of wetsanding!

You might want to look into the new Meg's system for DA's.

yea ive seen that! i saw mark say that its so effective that the flex is no longer king! lol! i guess i can give them a shot later down the road! they look very promising!
 
I use the 6.5" pads when applying waxes and sealers... (Actually, that is all I use the PCXP for, I use the 3401 for the rest)
 
Ugh, I ordered this pcxp kit off AG on March 11: Porter Cable 7424 & Foam Pad Kit - Car Buffer. It came with 5 pads, all 6.5. I chose 2 orange, 2 white, and 1 gray. I then added another 6.5 gold jewelling pad. Are you telling me these pads are worthless now? I was all excited to do my cars. Do you think they will let me return them and trade them out for 5.5 ones? They are unopened?

Why do they sell the 6.5 pads in the kit if they are no good? I don't doubt you guys, I'm just frustrated because I thought I was all good to go with all my products.

I would stick with 5.5" pads. 6.5" pads will need a different counter weight and backing pad and will not perform as well.

Im in the same boat as you man, It kinda sucks for us newbies but oh well, guess I should have read more
 
I just found this thread and also am a little bummed about the pad size vs backing plate. I bought the PCXP kit here over a year ago and always wondered why there was so much overhang. I feel like I need to order new 5.5 pads or a 6" backing plate for the 6.5"pads I have. Would I need anything other than the new backing plate to solve the problem?
